CLEVELAND - A clutch three with six seconds left from Shammah Scott secured second-seeded Akron its third consecutive Mid-American Conference Men's Basketball Tournament Title on Saturday night at Rocket Arena as the Zips defeated fourth-seeded Toledo, 79-75.
Tournament MVP Tavari Johnson and Amani Lyles paced Akron with 15 points apiece, while Scott and Bowen Hardman (four threes) tallied 12 points each.
After defeating NIU on Senior Day, Akron went 17-1 in the MAC the past two seasons. The Zips' 34-2 record in conference play the past two seasons is the best two-year stretch in conference history.
After setting the program record for wins in the regular season last season with 25, Akron reset the record books with its 26th regular season win in 2025-26 against NIU on Senior Day.
Akron receives an automatic bid to the 2026 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament. The Zips will learn their next opponent and location on Sunday, March 15th at 6 p.m. ET. Sunday's selection show will be broadcast live on CBS.
