Ball State rode a dominant offensive performance and a pair of standout double-doubles to a 101-91 victory over Kent State on Sunday afternoon at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center. The Cardinals shot 52.1% from the floor and never trailed, leading for more than 39 minutes to improve to 17-5 overall and 9-1 in Mid-American Conference play.
Tessa Towers paced Ball State with 29 points and 11 rebounds, while Bree Salenbien added 24 points and 10 assists to power the attack. Grace Kingery chipped in 22 points, knocking down six 3-pointers, and Aniss Tagayi scored 11 on a perfect 4-for-4 shooting night as the Cardinals controlled the paint, outscoring the Golden Flashes 50-26 inside and holding a 41-30 rebounding edge
Kent State kept pace behind Mya Babbitt’s 28 points and Dionna Gray’s 23 points and nine rebounds, trimming the deficit to three late in the second quarter, but Ball State pulled away with a 31-point third period to create separation. The Golden Flashes shot 47% overall and hit 10 3-pointers, yet couldn’t overcome the Cardinals’ efficiency and balanced scoring in the wire-to-wire defeat.
