Vicente Quiroga made history the Eastern Michigan program at the Nemacolin Collegiate Invitational (Oct. 5-6) as the freshman bounced back from rounds of 73 and 75 on the first day to fire a final-round 63 to help him climb 22 spots and finish in a three-way tie for medalist honors. His first collegiate win, which came in his third event, saw him tie for the lowest single round in program history that was set exactly one year prior by teammate Charlie Box, who shot 63 at the West Bay Collegiate, and equalled the mark recorded by Tim Chan two years prior at the White Sands Bahamas Invitational (Oct. 23, 2024). Quiroga, whose previous best finish in a collegiate competition was his tie for 11th two weeks prior at the Highlands Invitational, won the 27th title in program history (since 1980-81) and helped Eastern finish second in the standings by one stroke after sitting in a tie for fourth after two rounds.

Central Michigan’s Philippe Yturralde shot a 4-over-par 76 in the final round for a T16 finish at the Kemper Lakes Intercollegiate at Kemper Lakes Golf Club in Kildeer, Ill. Yturralde stood T10 after the first round and T20 after the second in the 78-player field. He moved up four spots on the leaderboard with his strong performance in the final round, and made eight birdies throughout the 54-hole event, tying for the 10th most in the field. He also carded just one double bogey, tying for the fewest in the event.

Leading the way for Kent State last weekend was Nolan Haynes. The junior from Barberton, Ohio had his best tournament statistically of his collegiate career, finishing tied for 5th place individually out of 81 golfers. Haynes' top 10 finish was a career-best placement as he shot two strokes under par through the 54-hole event, giving him a 208 for his final score. Haynes started off his impressive day shooting a 64 in the first round, which is not only a personal best for him, but also places him tied for 5th overall in program history for the lowest score in a single 18-hole round.history for the lowest score in a single 18-hole round.
