KENT, Ohio –
The Kent State Soccer team defeated their rival in the Akron Zips for the 23rd-time in 27 tries in program history on Sunday with a 2-1 win at Zoeller Field at Dix Stadium.

It also allowed the Flashes to jump TSDTR in the Mid-American Conference standings as the blue and gold currently sit in a three-way tie for the final two playoff spots in the conference tournament.

The Zips got the scoring started early off of a shot from a free kick by Callee DalBon in the 11th-minute. However, the Flashes responded with the equalizer 10 minutes later as Samantha Miller found Allison Collins in front of the net who put the ball away with her left foot.

In the 32nd-minute the Flashes would strike again in what would be the second straight game-winning goal on a header from Lila Simon. The goal was assisted by Miller for her second off the day from a free kick.

Kent State's 19 shots in the first half would make the difference as both defenses held their opposition to no goals for the remaining 63 minutes of play. That would give the Flashes a 2-1 win over their rival, beating them for the sixth straight year and the 16th time in the last 17 games between the two programs.

Between the two halves, the blue and gold outshout TSDTR by a count of 24-4 with 14 shots-on-goal compared to Akron's two. The Golden Flashes also won in the corner kick department by a count of 7-2.

Senior Goalkeeper Leah Shaffer finished with one save after allowing just one goal on four shots faced in 90 minutes of play for KSU. Sara Bower produced 12 saves in the contest for Akron as well.
