OXFORD, Ohio— The Miami University volleyball team (15-5, 7-2 MAC) swept Ball State (14-6, 5-4 MAC) Tuesday to secure its seventh-straight win. The RedHawks won by scores of 25-14, 25-21 and 25-20.

Grace Kreutz led all players with 14 kills and 14 digs. Molly Creech chipped in 10 kills and 10 digs for Miami. Holland Van Deusen had a team-high 21 assists, while Kamryn Utley added 19 for the Red and White.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Led by three consecutive aces from Van Deusen and a Kreutz kill, the RedHawks charged out to a 4-0 start against BSU. A pair of kills from Lydia Michelin and Creech brought the score to 6-2. Three-straight highlight-reel digs led to another Creech kill to cap a 4-0 Miami spurt and give the hosts an 11-5 lead. Kreutz scored off a block and added an ace to stretch the advantage to 17-9. Van Deusen, Creech, and Chelsea Williams then combined for three-straight kills to bring the score to 21-11. BSU responded with two kills, but the RedHawks didn't slow down, as back-to-back kills from Kreutz brought the score to 24-14. A BSU attacking error ended the set with a 25-14 victory for Miami.
  • An early 6-0 run in the second set, including multiple service aces from Creech, gave Miami some breathing room with a 9-4 lead. A slide kill from Lauren Coyne, an ace from Kreutz and a BSU attacking error extended the RedHawks' lead to 14-8. Miami and BSU traded kills to reach the media timeout with the RedHawks leading 15-9. Although BSU tied up the set at 19-19, Coyne hammered a cross-court kill to highlight a five-point run for the Red and White that put Miami back in control. The RedHawks finished off a 25-21 set victory to grab a 2-0 advantage.
  • Creech sparked a 7-0 run with a trio of kills as Miami jumped out to an 8-2 lead in set three. Back-to-back points from Creech and Lantz made it 10-4 before Ball State battled back to close the gap. A kill from Kamryn Utley and two aces from Madison Brown helped the RedHawks stretch their lead to 14-8. Kreutz put down kills on either side of the media timeout for a 16-10 margin, and strong play from Michelin at the net (including two massive blocks) brought Miami to a 19-13 lead. Miami matched its largest lead of the set at 20-13 on a block by Coyne and Lantz and went on to claim victory by a score of 25-20 to finish off the sweep.
