LOUISVILLE, Ky. – No. 12 Miami defeated the Bellarmine Knights 6-1 Friday after two early goals from sophomore Justina Intzes. Freshman Sophia Borghese was another goal scorer for Miami, earning her first career goal in the fourth quarter. Miami improves to 9-4 (5-1 MAC) with the win, while Bellarmine falls to 2-11 (2-4 MAC).
Sloane Wearren put the RedHawks on the board early, capitalizing on a breakaway three minutes in, to give Miami a 1-0 lead.
Minutes later, Toto Scarlatti passed to Bet Gifra inside the circle. Gifra found Intzes, who finished off the play with her eighth score of the season.
Máxi Aguirregomezcorta found Intzes near the net with six minutes to play in the first, and Intzes maneuvered her stick to score her second goal of the game and make it 3-0.
The RedHawks struck again late in the second quarter. On their fourth penalty corner of the day, Kylie Coughlin and Gifra set up Malena Sabez for her eighth goal of the season.
The Knights responded by putting together a strong possession, but Macarena Gonzalez made a save in the corner of the net to stop the attack. The RedHawks had two corner opportunities to end the half but did not score.
After a scoreless eight minutes in the second half, Malena Sabez fired on a penalty corner and Coughlin deflected the ball into the net to extend the lead to 5-0.
Late in the fourth quarter, Jilly Lawn fired into the circle and connected with freshman Sophia Borghese, who popped the ball into the net to take a 6-0 advantage and earn her first collegiate goal.

MUNCIE, Ind. – The No. 4 UMass field hockey team exploded for five second-half goals to erase any doubt in a 7-1 win at Ball State on Friday afternoon. With the win, the Minutewomen improve to 14-1 and 6-0 in the MAC. UMass scored a season-high five penalty corner goals on the afternoon while allowing just five total shots to the Cardinals.
"[We had] a good press today," said head coach Barb Weinberg. "Work rate was really high. We were able to win the ball pretty high up on the field. Obviously, the higher up you win it, the less distance you have to travel to get into your attacking zone; that was a huge part of today. Our press was very good and we were able to get a lot of outcomes in our attacking third because of that."
Emily Barrett and Neva Eisenga each scored two goals to lead the offense while Sophie Kent, Lina Kroeger and Amber Fairon scored the others. Four different Minutewomen recorded multiple assists, led by a career-high four from Megan Carpenter and two apiece from Niamh McKenzie, Cara Falconer and Fiene Jenniskens. Carpenter's four assists tied the program record.
UMass' 12 assists on the afternoon tied a program record set on Oct. 12, 2013 at Saint Louis. The Minutewomen's 26 points as a team (seven goals, 12 assists), is fifth most in program history and most since that game against the Billikens.
After a scoreless start, UMass got on the board in the final seconds of the first off a penalty corner, as Eisenga posted her first of the game.
Midway through the second quarter, Barrett finished her first of the afternoon in impressive fashion. Ball State answered less than two minutes later to pull within 2-1 at the half.
UMass scored both goals of the third quarter, direct off corners, as Kent and Kroeger finished for a 4-1 lead entering the fourth.
The Minutewomen added three more in the third, with Eisenga and Fairon firing home goals off corners at 46:07 and 54:56. In between, Barrett tallied her second. A tremendous sequence from the UMass defensive zone led to McKenzie finding Barrett for a second time, who fired a high shot past Ball State goalkeeper Carleigh Hofelich for her 11th goal of the season.
In the final minutes, Barrett came up with a pair of defensive saves on penalty corners to help preserve the 7-1 final.
For the game, UMass held a 21-5 edge in shots and 15-4 advantage in penalty corners. Colleen Conlan made one save for her third win of the season across Hofelich, who made nine.
The fourth-ranked Minutewomen return to action on Sunday when they travel to Bellarmine for a 1 p.m. start.

ATHENS, Ohio – Four first-half goals guided James Madison field hockey (6-6, 5-1 MAC) to its fifth consecutive win as the Dukes dominated Ohio, 6-0, Friday afternoon at Pruitt Field.
The Dukes executed at a high level offensively, registering season highs in both shooting percentage (.667) and shots-on-goal percentage (.889). JMU was efficient on penalty corners, converting three of its five opportunities into goals. Six different Dukes found the back of the net, while Azul Covarrubias, Avery Ruckman, Brynna Hill and Diede Donders each tallied three points with a goal and an assist.
On the defensive end, Lilly Sweeney and Hannah Popolis combined to secure JMU's first shutout of the season, limiting the Bobcats to nine shots, including four on goal. Sweeney picked up her sixth win of the year, while Popolis made four saves in the second half.
The Dukes capitalized on their first penalty corner of the game when Covarrubias blasted a shot into the back of the net off assists from Ruckman and Hill in the third minute.
Moments later, JMU connected from long range as Covarrubias sent a ball from near midfield into the shooting circle. Ruckman redirected the ball past Ohio's backline for her team-leading seventh goal of the season.
JMU converted another penalty corner in the 11th minute as Hill knocked the ball across the goal line following a favorable bounce.
Donders and Ella Dunstan combined for the Dukes' third penalty corner goal of the game as Dunstan, a Sydney, Australia, native, fired a shot that was redirected into the cage by Donders. The goal marked the first of the Molenhoek, The Netherlands, native's career.
JMU added to its lead in the second half as Emma Smit scored her fifth goal of the season in the 49th minute before Lilly Turner found the back of the net in the 55th minute to cap the Dukes' dominant performance.

FARMVILLE, Va. – The Kent State Field Hockey team beat the Longwood Lancers 4-1 in Farmville, Va. on Friday afternoon for their first road victory of the season.
The win has evened up the Golden Flashes' conference record at 3-3. Since Kent State's loss a few weeks ago against Bellarmine was in overtime, the team's point total is at an even 10. The double-digit points total places Kent State alone in 4th place at this time in the season. Elsewhere in the MAC, Ohio got shutout 0-6 against James Madison on Friday, bringing the future Kent State opponent slightly below the Golden Flashes in the standings. Kent State plays Ohio in the final regular season game of the year on Friday, Oct. 30.
The four goals scored by Kent State ties a season-high that the squad set last week in their 4-1 win over Ball State. Similarly to the Ball State win, Kent State had four different goal scorers in the victory over Longwood on Friday.
Ryli Zee was the first person to get Kent State on the board. The sophomore back has rightfully been getting a lot of attention for her defense this season as she leads the NCAA Division I in defensive saves. However, just 48 seconds into the game, Zee deflected a pass from Maybritt Duwel into the back of the net for her first collegiate career goal. Duwel's pass gives her two assists on the year.
Torie Del Collo fired off her second goal of the season just five minutes after Zee scored, making it quickly 2-0 in favor of the Golden Flashes. Eva Usoz was credited with the assist, giving her two assists on the year and a team-leading 18 points.
With the first quarter winding down, Longwood snuck a goal behind the left side of Michaela Skinner. Skylar Freistat was credited with her first collegiate career goal for the Lancers.
The score remained a 2-1 Kent State advantage through the second and third quarters as Longwood goalkeeper Sophie Mooldijk was dominant in the net in the middle of the game. Kent State consistently had penalty corner opportunities and Mooldijk kept turning the Golden Flashes away. In fact, Kent State had a season-high 15 penalty corner attempts in the game.
Mooldijk is far and away the saves leader in the MAC and has been a bright light for Longwood in an otherwise disappointing season for the Lancers. Mooldijk tallied a career-high 25 saves in the loss to Kent State, which ties Merrimack's Audra Szymborski for the most saves in a single game this season in D1 field hockey.
The Golden Flashes broke the game open a minute into the fourth quarter when Eva Usoz weaved through defenders for her eighth goal of the season. Usoz also posted career-highs in shots (12) and shots on goal (9) in the victory, tallying more of each stat than Longwood's offense combined. As of 6pm on Friday evening, Usoz has skyrocketed up to second place in shots and shots on goal in the MAC stat leaderboard.
Sophomore forward Addie Gagnon scored the Golden Flashes' fourth goal of the game a few minutes after Usoz's to secure the win for Kent State. The goal was set up by a sharp assist from Emily Robertson diagonally across the pitch.

BOONE, N.C. — Behind the first career hat trick from Sophia Baxter and a multi-goal performance from Chloe Hook, the App State field hockey team snapped a two-game losing streak with a 5-0 shutout victory over Central Michigan on Friday.
Baxter anchored the offensive surge for the Mountaineers (7-7, 3-3 MAC), converting on a penalty corner, a penalty stroke and a solo run past the 25-yard line. Hook, the team's leading scorer, added two goals to bring her season total to eight, while senior goalkeeper Dakota Anderson recorded four saves to secure her fifth shutout of the season.
The Mountaineers struck early, taking the lead less than two minutes into the contest. Off a shared period of possession, Chloe Hook found the back of the cage on an assist from her twin sister, Morgan Hook. App State held firm defensively to carry a 1-0 advantage into the second frame.

App State blew the game open after the intermission, pouring in three goals in the third frame. Kassie Paul initiated the scoring streak with an entry pass from outside the circle, which Chloe Hook tipped past the goalkeeper to double the advantage. Late in the period, App State drew a penalty stroke, which Baxter converted to build a 4-0 cushion heading into the final period.
