BOWLING GREEN, Ohio –
Junior Emma Stransky scored in the 27th minute, and the Bowling Green University women's soccer team maintained that lead for the rest of the afternoon, as the Falcons ended the non-conference schedule with a 1-0 win over Duquesne University Sunday afternoon (Sept. 7) at Cochrane Stadium.

With the win, the Falcons end non-league play with a 5-1-1 record, the second-best start to a season in program history. The Dukes drop to 4-2-0 on the year.

Sophomore Haley Wolf drew the assist on Stransky's winner. The play began when redshirt soph Audrey Oliver stole a Duquesne pass near midfield. Oliver quickly played the ball ahead to Stransky, who created some space before sending it out side to Wolf.

Wolf, streaking down the right side of the pitch, ran onto the ball and hit a cross into the box. Stransky, standing near the six-yard line on the left side of the goal, headed the ball back across and into the right side of the net, for what proved to be the winner.

Duquesne entered the afternoon tied for 12th in the nation in goals per game (3.20), but Payton O'Malley and the BGSU defense kept a clean sheet vs. the Dukes. O'Malley had four saves en route to her third shutout of the season.

For the visitors, Ali Hughes had one save.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. –
The Western Michigan women's soccer team earned its third consecutive victory, defeating Detroit Mercy, 4-1, on Sunday afternoon at the WMU Soccer Complex.

Werthman notched two goals, while Mikayla Coore-Pascal and Heidi Thomasma had the others. Madi Canada, Abigail Baldridge and Jaida Manderson had assists in the match.

FIRST HALF
It didn't take long for the Broncos to take control of the game, getting a goal from Werthman in the second minute. She followed that up with another tally in the fifth minute to make it 2-0 WMU. The goal was the 50th of her career.

Moments after that goal, UDM got its first shot of the game. Goalkeeper Reagan Sulaver was there to clean up the chance. The Brown and Gold went right back on offense, getting a great look on net from Drew Martin in the 17th minute.

The Titans settled the game down a little bit and didn't allow many more chances the rest of the half. However, Kiya Gilliand nearly made it 3-0 with a shot in the 37th minute. The goalkeeper was just able to get in front of the chance to keep it out the net.

Western Michigan carried a two-goal lead into the second 45 minutes of play.

SECOND HALF
The Brown and Gold kept up the pressure, as Coore-Pascal found the back of the net in the 66th minute. The goal was her second of the season and made the score 3-0 in favor of the home team.

Thomasma made it 4-0 with a goal in the 77th minute, tallying her first goal of the season. However, Detroit Mercy would respond in the 81st minute, getting a goal off of a corner kick to make it 4-1.

Down the stretch, Werthman and Kailah Newcomb had shots travel just over the net. The Broncos would go on to close out a 4-1 victory.
