Two Minute Drill
• Bowling Green opened the Eddie George Era with a 26-7 win over Lafayette Thursday night at Doyt Perry Stadium. The Falcons struck immediately when Cameron Pettaway returned the opening kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown, marking the second straight year BGSU opened the season with a kickoff return score. After a 40-minute lightning delay in the first quarter, Bowling Green added to its lead with a 30-yard field goal from Jackson Kleather to cap a 17-play drive before Mar’Kel Porter’s four-yard touchdown run late in the second quarter made it 17-0 at halftime. Jackson Kleather connected on three second-half field goals, highlighted by a 56-yarder, which is tied for the second-longest in program history, to secure the win.

• Cade Graham kicked three field goals, the last with 4:13 remaining, to help Central Michigan hold on for a 16-14 season-opening victory at San Jose State on Friday. The Chippewas jumped out to a 13-0 second-quarter lead on two Graham field goals and a Trey Cornist 29-yard touchdown run. It was Drinkall’s debut as CMU’s coach and the victory snapped a 10-game road losing streak and an 11-game road losing streak on opening day.

• Da’Realyst Clark’s 100-yard kickoff return touchdown with 5:28 remaining lifted Kent State to a 21-17 victory over Merrimack on Saturday afternoon at Dix Stadium in the first game under interim head coach Mark Carney. The dramatic win marked Kent State’s first victory since September 16, 2023. Cade Wolford caught both of Kent State’s touchdown passes on just two receptions, averaging 54.5 yards per catch.

• The Northern Illinois defense held Holy Cross to just 217 yards of total offense as the Huskies outlasted the Crusaders, 19-17, on Saturday afternoon at Huskie Stadium. NIU allowed just 62 rushing yards to the Crusaders and held Holy Cross to 3-for-12 on third down. Quinn Urwiler recorded a team-high 10 tackles, followed by Muhammed Jammeh with seven and Ty Myles with six, including 1.5 tackles for loss.

• UMass punter Keegan Andrews was named the Week One Ray Guy Award Punter of the Week, as announced by the Augusta Sports Council and Ray Guy Award organization on Wednesday afternoon. Against Temple, Andrews tallied four punts for 228 yards, while recording a net average of 57.0 yards. Three of the senior’s four punts were downed inside the 20-yard line, with all four punts advanced over 50 yards. Andrews had a 66-yard long punt and only one was returned on the day.
