KENT, Ohio (AP) — Ta’Quan Roberson passed for 318 yards and three touchdowns, including a 22-yarder to Victor Snow with 1:03 remaining in the fourth quarter, and Buffalo rallied to beat Kent State 31-28 on Saturday for its fifth straight Mid-American Conference victory.
Buffalo (2-1) won its MAC opener for the fourth straight season. The Bulls improved to 8-2 in their last 10 trips to Dix Stadium.
Kent State (1-2, 0-1) lost its 24th straight game against a FBS opponent. The Golden Flashes have also lost 17 straight conference games and 11 consecutive home games against MAC foes.
The Golden Flashes took a 28-24 lead with 2:37 remaining after a 22-play, 93-yard drive that took over 12 minutes off the clock.
But Buffalo marched down the field in eight plays, covering 76 yards, ending on a third-and-10 play that saw Snow wide open near the goal line.
Snow has a receiving touchdown in six straight regular-season games dating to last season — making him the first UB player to have a touchdown catch in each of the first three games of the season since Alex Neutz in 2012.
Al-Jay Henderson, who had a career-high 185 yards rushing against Kent State last season, carried it 15 times for 75 yards and a touchdown for Buffalo. Nik McMillan made six catches for 111 yards and a score.
Freshman Dru DeShields threw for 279 yards and two touchdowns in his first collegiate start for Kent State. He also carried it 14 times for 37 yards and another score.
Ball State 34, New Hampshire 29

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) — Qua Ashley rushed for a career-high 154 yards including two touchdowns and combined with Kiael Kelly for Ball State’s final points in a 34-29 victory over New Hampshire for Mike Uremovich’s first win as the Cardinals’ coach Saturday.
Kelley threw for 105 yards and two scores with an interception and rushed for 101 yards and another TD.
Kelly’s 27-yard pass to Ashley gave Ball State (1-2) a 34-21 lead with 10 minutes left in the third quarter.
UNH (2-1) rallied behind two Nick Reed field goals, including a career-long 52-yarder, and Justice Akinmoladun’s sack for a safety but the Wildcats couldn’t get past midfield on their final drive.
Matt Vezza was 25 of 44 for 249 yards passing and a TD and rushed for 78 yards and another score for New Hampshire, ranked No. 24 in the FCS coaches poll.
Ball State led 28-21 at halftime after the teams combined for 521 of the game’s 801 yards of offense.
Ashley scored on 43- and 72-yard runs for a 21-14 lead. Vezza tied it with a 2-yard run with under two minutes left before Kelly threw to Kameron Anthony for a 10-yard score with 20 seconds remaining in the half.
Toledo 60, Morgan State 0

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — Chip Trayanum and Kenji Christian rushed for two touchdowns each, Junior Vandeross III caught three TD passes and Toledo scored a school-record 43 points in the second quarter on its way to a 60-0 win over Morgan State on Saturday.
John Alan Richter threw two touchdown passes and Tucker Gleason one for the Rockets (2-1), who outgained the Bears 557-56 and had 31 first downs to Morgan State’s four.
Gleason threw for 174 of the Rockets’ 297 yards passing while no Toledo running back had over 49 yards despite a 260 team total. Javon Brown had 94 yards receiving.
The FCS Bears (0-3) were 0-for-12 on third downs.
Toledo led just 3-0 after the first quarter then scored touchdowns on all six of its second-quarter possessions.
The last time Toledo shut out an opponent it came in a 37-0 win over Long Island University to open the 2022 season.
Bowling Green 23, Liberty 13

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (AP) — Drew Pyne threw for one touchdown and Chris McMillian ran for another as Bowling Green beat Liberty 23-13 after pulling away late on Saturday.
McMillian took a direct snap for a 7-yard rushing touchdown for the Falcons in the fourth quarter to go up 23-7.
Pyne finished the game 16-for-31 for 146 yards and a score. He found Jacob Harris in the end zone for a 12-yard score as Bowling Green (2-1) went into halftime up 10-0.
Ethan Vasko connected with Donte Lee Jr. on a 44-yard scoring strike, pulling within three of the Falcons in the third.
Jackson Kleather drove in field goals from 50, 48 and 26 yards, proving to be the difference maker in a low-scoring contest.
Vasko went 13 of 24 for 194 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions as the Flames (1-2) struggled to generate much offensively.
Eriq George worked two sacks, and the Falcons’ defense picked up seven tackles for loss and three passes deflected in the win.
Michigan 63, Central Michigan 3

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Bryce Underwood passed for 235 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 114 yards and two more scores, leading No. 23 Michigan to a 63-3 victory over Central Michigan on Saturday.
The Wolverines (2-1) and their freshman star bounced back from a lackluster performance in a loss at Oklahoma. Biff Poggi stepped in for suspended coach Sherrone Moore, who also will miss the school’s Big Ten opener next weekend at Nebraska.
Underwood completed 16 of 25 passes, including a 32-yard touchdown pass to Semaj Morgan, in three quarters before watching the rest of the game from the sideline.
He carried the ball nine times, sometimes by design, and had the most yards rushing by a quarterback for the Wolverines since Devin Gardner ran for 121 yards on 24 attempts at Penn State in 2013 during a loss in four overtimes.
In a 24-13 loss to the Sooners last week, Underwood was 9 of 24 for 142 yards and lost a yard on three carries.
The Chippewas (1-2) nearly picked off Underwood’s first pass, then struggled to slow him down through the air or on the ground.
Michigan’s Justice Haynes had 104 yards rushing and a touchdown on 14 carries. Jordan Marshall scored twice while running for 52 yards on 10 attempts.
The Wolverines scored at least two touchdowns in each quarter and had 616 yards of offense.
The Chippewas, who were held to 139 yards on offense, avoided a shutout on Cade Graham’s 22-yard field goal late in the first half.
Central Michigan’s Angel Flores was 7 of 12 for 24 yards and ran nine times for 76 yards.
Illinois 38, Western Michigan 0

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) — Luke Altmyer threw for two touchdowns and ran for another and No. 9 Illinois shut out Western Michigan 38-0 on Saturday night.
Kaden Feagin rushed for 100 yards and a touchdown and Ca’Lil Valentine ran for 63 yards and a TD. Hank Beatty caught six passes for 53 yards and a TD.
It was the seventh consecutive victory dating to last season for Illinois (3-0), its longest winning streak since it won seven in a row in 2011.
Broc Lowry threw for 78 yards and ran for 40 yards for the Broncos (0-3), who had 204 total yards.
Illinois led 10-0 at halftime, preserving the shutout with a goal-line stand in the final seconds. The Illini stopped the Broncos twice at the 1-yard line.

Ohio State 37, Ohio 9

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Julian Sayin passed for 347 yards and three touchdowns, Jeremiah Smith found the end zone twice and top-ranked Ohio State pulled away in the second half for a 37-9 victory over Ohio on Saturday night.
Ohio (1-2) pulled to 13-9 early in the third quarter when Parker Navarro connected with Chase Hendricks for a 67-yard touchdown. However, the Buckeyes took control by scoring on their next four drives.
Jayden Fielding’s third field goal put the Buckeyes (3-0) up 16-9 before Sayin found Smith for a 47-yard touchdown and Carnell Tate for a 49-yard score to make it a three-score game.
Smith, who had a career-high nine receptions for 153 yards, put it out of reach by going around left end on a 17-yard reverse to make it 37-9 midway through the fourth quarter. The sophomore also became the fastest player in school history to reach 1,500 yards receiving, reaching the mark in his 19th game.
Sayin completed 25 of 32 passes. He had his second straight 300-yard game but also had two interceptions.
Bo Jackson had 109 rushing yards on nine carries and Tate had five receptions for 101 yards and a TD.
The Buckeyes had 572 yards of total offense, including four plays of at least 42 yards, and held the Bobcats to 181.
Navarro completed six of 13 passes for 94 yards. The senior suffered a wrist injury late in the first quarter and didn’t come back until after halftime.
Hendricks’ 63-yard TD was the longest catch of his career. The junior caught the ball in stride at the Buckeyes 41, reversed field, stiff armed an attempted tackle by Ohio State cornerback Lorenzo Styles Jr. at the 23 and then outraced other Buckeye defenders into the end zone. Ohio kicker Brack Peacock missed the extra point to keep Ohio State’s advantage at 13-9.
