MAC Releases Week 8 Women's Tennis Athletes of the Week

Catherine Rhegness, Freshman, Toledo

Catherine Rhegness went undefeated this weekend as Toledo took on USF and 2024 NJCAA national runner-up Hillsborough CC in Tampa, Fla. Rhegness recorded a three-set victory over USF's Karine Kluidjian on Friday on the No. 6 court, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4. The freshman then earned a 6-3, 6-2 straight-set win over HCC's Johanna Marten on the No. 6 court on Saturday afternoon. Rhegness is 4-0 in singles play during her freshman campaign.

Maria Dzemeshkevich, Senior, Northern Illinois
NIU's Maria Dzemeshkevich recorded a 7-5, 6-2 win over Marquette's Tiera Jarmond at No. 1 singles, helping to lead the Huskies to a 5-2 win in its final match before beginning MAC play. Dzemeshkevich gave the Huskies a 3-0 lead as NIU improved to 12-3 on the season. The Houston transfer improved her dual match singles record to 10-3.

Doubles Team of the Week
Catherine Denyseiwicz-Slowek and Malu Oliveira, Miami

Catherine and Malu went 2-0 on the weekend in doubles competition. The pair defeated Charleston Southern University, 6-3 on Friday and College of Charleston, 6-4 on Saturday. Both wins came from the No. 2 spot. Catherine and Malu’s consistency over the week helped Miami secure the doubles point in both days of competition.
