BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team bounced back on Sunday (Dec. 7) with a dominant, 131-50, win over Aquinas College. The Falcons threatened multiple program records, including the most points in a game, the best shooting percentage in a game and the most steals in a game. For fans that came to both the women's game against Defiance at 1 p.m. and the men's game against Aquinas, they witnessed Bowling Green outscore their opponents 249-85 across the two games in the Stroh Center. The men's team moves to 7-3 on the season with one more non-conference home game, hosting Chicago State on Dec. 16, before the MAC schedule begins at Ohio on Dec. 20. 

Javon Ruffin started the scoring for the day with two at the line. Sam Towns added a jumper before the first Aquinas points, coming with a three. Troy Glover II continued the BGSU scoring with a layup before a Towns layup as well. Aiden Goins added two for a 10-9 Bowling Green lead at the first media timeout with Aquinas making two threes in the midst of the Falcon scoring.

Coming out of the timeout, the Falcons put together a 16-2 run. Goins got it started with two layups before back-to-back layups from Mayar Wol. Josiah Shackelford joined in with a pair of layups before another from Wol made it 26-11 to force an Aquinas timeout, doubling for the under-12 media break.

After the timeout, Aquinas stopped the run with a three. Two at the line from Thomas started BGSU's scoring followed by two Goins layups, including an and-one on the second. Thomas kept the run going with a triple for a 10-0 run before the next Aquinas points, building a 37-14 lead.

Javontae Campbell got a second-chance bucket to fall before a Goins layup. The Saints made a three, but the Falcons went back to work with a Thomas layup for a 43-19 lead at the under-8 media timeout.

Makhi Leach joined the scoring with a free throw before back-to-back Camden Karel baskets and then two Wol free throws, building a 7-0 run and 50-19 lead. Aquinas hit a three, but Wol answered for the Falcons with one of his own. Glover and Towns added layups before the next Aquinas points, pushing the lead to 57-24.

The two teams traded buckets with BGSU's coming from Leach. A three from Thomas and two Campbell free throws kept it going for the Orange and Brown. Thomas slammed home a dunk before two Towns free throws. Campbell closed out the half with three free throws for a 71-26 advantage at halftime, including a 12-0 run going into the break. 

The second half began with a Glover hook shot before a Ruffin three and Ruffin jumper, creating a 19-0 run across the half for the Falcons before Aquinas' first second half points. 

The Saints hit a three, but the Falcons followed with a 12-0 run going into the under-16 media timeout. Ruffin began with a layup followed by one from Thomas and another from Goins. A fast break dunk from Thomas kept it going before layups from Wol and Goins, building a 90-31 lead.

After the stoppage, Goins made two at the line before an Aquinas layup to end the run. The Falcons went back to work with two at the line from Leach for a 94-33 score. Aquinas made a basket, but a three from Shackelford and a jumper from Jason Kimbrough Jr. pushed the lead to 99-35 at the under-12 media timeout. A free throw from Karel after the break gave BGSU 100 points for the first time this season.

For the Falcons, Thomas knocked down a three, pushing him past 20 points for the night, followed by a Glover slam dunk for a 105-38 lead at the under-8 media timeout.

For Bowling Green, Kimbrough made two at the line followed by layups from Leach and Shackelford before a Goins three and two free throws from Goins as well as two from Kimbrough for a 118-41 score.

Leach continued the BGSU scoring with a layup before one from Kimbrough as well. Karel chipped in with two points in the paint and then a free throw later. Kimbrough kept it going with a three followed by another triple, this time from Alijah Adem, for the 131-47 final.

The Falcons will have a brief hiatus with exams this week, but will remain at home for their next game. Bowling Green will host Chicago State on Tuesday, Dec. 16 at the Stroh Center with a 7 p.m. tip.
