DETROIT — Miami and Western Michigan meet at Ford Field on Saturday afternoon with the 2025 Mid-American Conference championship on the line, a rematch of an October matchup and a clash between two of the league’s hottest teams. Saturday marks the first time the programs have met for the MAC title. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. ET and will be broadcast live on ESPN.
Western Michigan (8-4, 7-1 MAC) rides into Detroit on a four-game winning streak and owns its best conference record since its undefeated 2016 regular season. The Broncos were picked seventh in the preseason coaches poll but surged behind a revamped defense and the dynamic play of quarterback Broc Lowry. The redshirt sophomore has rushed for 14 touchdowns—most by a WMU quarterback since 1916—and leads the team with 875 rushing yards. The Broncos also boast the MAC’s No. 2 scoring defense, anchored by defensive end Nadame Tucker, who leads the conference in sacks (12.0) and tackles for loss (22.0).
Miami (7-5, 6-2 MAC) returns to Detroit for the third straight year, becoming the first MAC program to reach three consecutive title games since Northern Illinois’ run from 2010–15. The RedHawks are 4-3 all-time in MAC Championship Games and earned their spot this season after closing conference play with wins over Buffalo and Ball State. Miami rebounded from an 0-3 start and midseason quarterback turmoil, turning to redshirt freshman Thomas Gotkowski, who has thrown for 411 yards and four touchdowns over the last two weeks. The RedHawks also feature the MAC’s most disruptive defense, led by defensive end Adam Trick (8.5 sacks) and a secondary with 14 interceptions, tied for best in the league.
Miami won the regular-season meeting 26-17 on Oct. 25 in Oxford, scoring 17 fourth-quarter points to hand WMU its only league loss. Cole Weaver and Kam Perry combined for 194 receiving yards, while the RedHawk defense sealed the game with a late strip-sack.
