SAN DIEGO, Calf. - The Ball State twosome of
Sarah Shahbaz and
Isabel Tanjuatco were selected to play at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Masters Championship in San Diego, Calif. at the Barnes Tennis Center from Nov. 6-9.
The duo won two matches at the tournament advancing to the quarterfinals. Shahbaz and Tanjuatco opened the tournament with a 3-6, 6-4, 14-12 come-from-behind victory over Harvard's Charlotte Owensby and Claire Shao.
On Friday, Shahbaz and Tanjuatco would move on to after they were victorious in the round of 16, defeating the doubles tandem of My-Anh Holmes and Raphaelle Leroux from Murray State, 6-4, 3-2, ret. Unfortunately, Shahbaz and Tanjuatco were eliminated in the quarterfinals after falling to Furman's Elle Warren and Lillie Murphy, 6-2, 6-2.
All-in-all the duo made quite a splash this fall after being crowned doubles champions at the prestigious Milwaukee Tennis Classic and the Xavier Invite along with earning the title of the MAC Indoor Doubles championship. The twosome finished the fall with a 13-1 record.
The Ball State women's tennis team will open spring play at Big Ten foe Purdue on Jan. 24 at 2 pm ET.
