Cardinals, Eagles Earn Final Volleyball Player of the Week Honors


Offensive Player of the Week
Carson Tyler, Outside Hitter, Ball State
Carson Tyler helped the Ball State women’s volleyball team finish league play with a 17-1 MAC record by averaging a league-high 5.92 points per set in a weekend sweep of Central Michigan ... She registered 14 kills in Thursday’s sweep and 15 more in Friday’s three-set win, both match-high totals ... Tyler also served up four more aces on the weekend, helping her end league play with a MAC-best 0.42 aces-per-set average ... She also threw in 19 total digs, including 10 on Thursday for her 17th kill/dig double-double of the season, and a .976 reception percentage with just one error in a team-high 42 attempts.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Layna Waselewsky, Libero, Eastern Michigan 
Eastern Michigan freshman Layna Waselewksy ended her rookie campaign strong as she recorded 6.22 digs per set (56 total) and secured a double-double in two games against the Miami RedHawks. She played a large role in the Eagles posting 104 digs in the contest, the third-most in the MAC this season and the most in the previous week. Waselewksy started the week with a 10-assist/33-dig double-double, the first of her career. Waselewsky’s 6.22 digs per set led the MAC last week, and her 33 digs against the RedHawks were the most from a MAC freshman in a single game this season, and the seventh-most from a freshman in the country. Her 33 digs were also the third-most in the MAC among all players. She followed up the performance with 23 digs, 5 assists, and one ace in the win over Miami, marking the first consecutive 20+ dig outings of her career.
 
Setter Pair of the Week
Lindsey Green/ Reese Axness, Ball State
Lindsey Green and Reese Axness helped the Ball State offense lead the MAC with a .293 attack percentage last week, with a .246 mark in Thursday’s sweep of CMU and a .346 effort in Friday’s sweep. Green dished out 46 assists (7.67 average) and Axness dished out 29 assists (4.83 average) in the series, helping the Cardinals rack up a MAC-best 13.14 assists per set last week.  Green also served up a pair of aces and collected 16 digs, including 11 on Thursday, to go along with 22 assists for her seventh double-double of the season. Axness was also credited with 12 total digs in the two sweeps of the Chippewas.
