BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team continued their winning streak to open the season, topping Le Moyne, 83-60, Sunday afternoon (Nov. 9) inside the Stroh Center. The win moves BGSU to 3-0 to start the season for the first time since 2014-15 and the second time since 1999-2000.
For the Falcons, Javontae Campbell led the way with his second-straight 20-point game, finishing with 23, while also swiping a career-high eight steals to tie the program's single-game steals record. The Falcons will now take their 2025-26 campaign on the road for the first time, facing Davidson on Saturday (Nov. 15).
Le Moyne began the scoring with two, but a Josiah Shackelford three answered. The same sequence followed with another Shackelford three before another Dolphins basket for a 6-6 score.
Javon Ruffin made three at the line and later hit a three from the floor, but Le Moyne continued to respond, taking a 14-12 lead into the first media timeout.
After the timeout, a mid-range jumper from Shackelford tied it at 14-14. Le Moyne added a basket, but two at the line from Javontae Campbell again tied it up.
Troy Glover II found a driving Sam Towns for a layup to give the Falcons the lead. The Dolphins answered with a three for a 19-18 lead at the under-12 media timeout.
Le Moyne hit a three after the break, but the Falcons went to work. A layup for Campbell was followed by a Mayar Wol jumper to tie it at 22-22. A free throw from Justin Thomas pushed BGSU in front 23-22 at the under-8 timeout.
The Dolphins moved out to a 25-23 lead, but a layup for Thomas off a steal tied it at 25-25. Campbell swiped a steal of his own, making a fast break layup for a 27-25 BGSU lead, prompting a timeout from Le Moyne.
The back-and-forth continued with Le Moyne tying the score after the timeout, but a Shackelford steal and slam swung the score back to the Falcons. He later added two at the line to match a Dolphin basket for a 31-30 score.
Le Moyne jumped back in front with a 34-31 lead. A pair of layups from Campbell separated by a second-chance layup from Towns helped make it a 37-36 BGSU lead at the midway point.
The Falcons opened the second half scoring with Campbell finding Thomas for a layup. Towns and Thomas both followed with threes to open the second half with an 8-0 run.
The teams began trading points from there with a jumper from Glover and a three from Campbell for a 50-41 BGSU advantage at the first media timeout of the second half.
Shackelford kept it going with two at the line, but Le Moyne matched with a layup. Wol hit a jumper for BGSU before Campbell converted an and-one off his own steal for a 57-43 score.
Le Moyne managed for a 5-0 run from there, cutting the score to 57-48 at the under-12 media timeout of the second half.
Campbell kept the scoring going followed by layups from Ruffin and Glover for a 6-0 BGSU run. Le Moyne made a layup before the teams traded threes with Ruffin and Wol both sinking one each for a 69-53 Bowling Green lead at the under-8 media timeout.
Le Moyne made two at the line before a Shackelford dunk. The Dolphins made a layup, but a Campbell and-one answered before a Shackelford layup for a 76-57 score at the final media timeout of the second half.
For the Falcons, Campbell kept the scoring down the stretch with two at the line. Towns hit a three and Wol added two more at the line, ending the game with a 7-0 run for an 83-60 final score.
The Falcons will hit the road for the first time this season for their next contest. BGSU will head to North Carolina to face Davidson on Saturday (Nov. 15) with a 6 p.m. start. Bowling Green will then return home to host William & Mary on Nov. 19 for a 7 p.m. tip.
