MAC Issues Reprimand of Buffalo Student-Athlete

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference has announced that University at Buffalo placekicker Upton Bellenfant has been issued a formal reprimand following an unsportsmanlike incident during Saturday's game against Northern Illinois University. Bellenfant directed an obscene gesture toward members of the Huskies' football team during the fourth quarter of the contest, violating the MAC's Sportsmanship Policy.

The MAC holds all student-athletes to a high standard of conduct, both on and off the field, as part of the Conference's commitment to sportsmanship and fair play.

"In our Conference, we expect all student-athletes to channel their emotions in appropriate ways,” said MAC Commissioner Jon Steinbrecher. "When those expectations fall short, it is important that we reinforce them. I commend the leadership of Buffalo Director of Athletics Mark Alnutt and Head Coach Pete Lembo for being proactive in addressing this matter and taking steps to uphold the values of sportsmanship."
