Miami Wins Third-Straight MAC Softball Title

AKRON, Ohio – The No. 1 Miami University softball team shut out No. 6 Ball State University 8-0 on Saturday afternoon to take their third-straight Mid-American Conference Tournament Championship. This also punches the RedHawks' ticket to the NCAA Tournament. The RedHawks move to 48-7 on the season. Ball State ends their season 29-29.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The first two innings were scoreless. A lightning delay then halted the game in the middle of the third.
  • A RBI single from Karli Spaid, shortly after resuming play in the bottom of the third, scored Kate Kobayashi and got the RedHawks out in front. Jenna Golembiewski followed that up with a RBI single of her own to make it a 2-0 Miami lead.
  • Still in that inning, Chloe Parks snagged a RBI for her walk with the bases loaded when Holly Blaska crossed the plate. Reagan Bartholomew then followed that up with a sac fly to score Allie Cummins and make it 4-0..
  • In the bottom of the third, Holly Blaska blasted a homer over left-center field, scoring Spaid and Golembiewski to make it a 7-0 difference.
  • Reagan Bartholomew walked it off in the bottom of the fifth with a solo homer to give the RedHawks the 8-0 championship win in five innings.
 
NOTES:
  • Blaska and Bartholomew each had homers. Bartholomew's was the walk off.
  • Blaska had three RBI in the game.
  • Golembiewski went 2-for-2 at the plate.
  • Addy Jarvis pitched a complete game and got the win. She gave up just one hit and struck out three.
  • Spaid, Bartholomew, Madilyn Reeves, and Sami Bewick were all named to the MAC All-Tournament team.
  • Spaid was named the Most Valuable Player of the MAC Tournament.
 
UP NEXT: The RedHawks will learn their regional and opponent for the NCAA Tournament at the selection show May 12 at 7 p.m.
