Toledo Sweeps Final Women's Tennis Weekly Honors

Cassie Alcala, Toledo, Senior
Senior Cassie Alcala was perfect from the No.1 singles court to help Toledo take down Buffalo (6-1) and Ball State (7-0) this week, to secure Toledo's second Mid-American Conference Regular Season Championship and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming conference tournament. Alcala had a 6-0 sweep and lost only three games to Buffalo's Jagmeet Kaur in the second set (6-3) to win the No. 1 court and put Toledo at match point. Alcala then clinched match point against BSU's Annika Planinsek 6-3, 6-1 on Sunday afternoon. UT's win over Buffalo also extended its home winning streak to 15 straight matches since January 2023. Alcala is 16-5 this spring and is 8-2 against MAC opponents.
 
Doubles Team of the Week
Cassie Alcala/ Julia Kuszynski, Toledo, Senior/Senior
Toledo's No.1 duo of Cassie Alcala and Julia Kuszynski were perfect against their Buffalo and Ball State counterparts this weekend to help Toledo clinch both doubles points in the 6-1 win vs. the Bulls and 7-0 sweep vs. the Cardinals. Alcala and Kuszynski blanked UB's Ambre Amat/ Esmee Andresen 6-0, and defeated BSU's Sarah Shahbaz/ Isabelle Tanjuatco in a 7-5 final. The win over Buffalo clinched Toledo's second Mid-American Conference Regular Season Championship, the No. 1 seed in the upcoming conference tournament, and extended its home winning streak to 15 straight matches since January 2023. Toledo's No.1 duo is 10-2 this season with an 8-0 league record, and have won their last eight matches together.
