ATHENS, Ohio – With a total of 812.5 points, the Akron Zips won the 2024 MAC Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship, its third-consecutive title and its 10th championship in the last 11 years.
Leading by 108 points after three full days of competition, the Zips ultimately secured the championship title with three gold medals on Saturday night. In total, Akron claimed ten first-place finishes throughout the four day competition.
Akron’s Abby Daniel broke another MAC record, securing first place in the 200 fly with a time of 1:55.50. Overall, Daniel earned three individual event wins while setting a handful of records throughout the week. With her performance at this year’s Championships, Daniel was named the Most Outstanding Swimmer.
Ball State’s Callie Tuma delivered an exceptional performance, finishing the 1650 Free with a time of 16:44.16.
Miami’s Nicole Maier made history by setting a new MAC record in the 100 Free, finishing in a time of 47.77. Maier earned three individual event victories throughout the week.
Ohio’s Casi Dibetta demonstrated her dominance in the pool once again, claiming victory in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:11.59. It marked Dibetta's second invididual honor of the Championship.
Buffalo's Marialis Kwak took home her second gold of the Championship after wining the 3-meter dive with a mark of 312.65. Kwak was named the Most Outstanding Diver following her performance at this year's meet.
