Amy Velasco, Bowling Green, Guard
Senior, Centerville, Ohio (Centerville)
Amy Velasco led the Falcons in scoring and assists last week, with 25.0 points and 4.5 assists per contest in BGSU’s games vs. Cleveland State and St. Bonaventure. Velasco shot over 60 percent from the field (60.7%), going 17-for-28 in the two games. She hit six of her nine three-point attempts (66.7%) and was a perfect 10-of-10 from the free-throw line on the week. Velasco had 28 points on the road against preseason Horizon League favorite CSU, falling just four points shy of her career best. She also had four rebounds and four assists, playing all 40 minutes against the Vikings. Then, four days later, Velasco led all players with 22 points and tied for game honors with five assists, as the Falcons recorded the most lopsided win against an NCAA Division-I opponent in BGSU women’s basketball history, with a 51-point (92-41) win over St. Bonaventure. She went 7-of-11 from the field, including 2-for-2 from three-point range, in the win. Velasco is averaging 20.3 points and 4.5 assists per game this season, leading the Falcons in both categories, and she has scored at least 20 points in each of the last three games.
