Marcus Petite, Buffalo, Redshirt Junior, 165lbs
Marcus Petite went 4-0 to win the 174-pound title at the Mattown College Open hosted by Lock Haven on Sunday. Petite won his opening match over Rutgers' Eric Freeman 10-5 and followed with a 6-1 decision over Nicolas Alvarez of Franklin & Marshall. In the semifinals, Petite upset top-seeded Hunter Mays of Lehigh by pinning him in the third period (5:43). Petite capped off the title with a 5-0 decision over Lehigh's Zeke Debler in the finals.
East Wrestler of the Week
Nick Stonecheck, Lock Haven, Junior, 149lbs
Junior Nick Stonecheck (Alpharetta, Ga./Buford) enjoyed a perfect 2-0 week. Both wins came vs. MAC Eastern Division opponents in dual matches and Stonecheck scored a big upset-win vs. Rider. He opened the week in thrilling fashion as he pinned George Mason’s Kaden Cassidy in just 1:44. The pin helped power the Bald Eagles to quick start and the dual finished with Lock Haven downing George Mason, 33-6 in MAC East action. On Friday at Rider, Stonecheck upset nationally-ranked Quinn Kinner of Rider, 8-5 in sudden victory. Stonecheck trailed late, but used a last-second takedown in regulation to the tie the match, before soring the upset in thrilling fashion in sudden victory. Kinner was ranked No. 25 in the NCAA Coaches’ Rankings.
