Watson Earns MAC Player of the Week Honors

MAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
Chellia Watson, Buffalo, Guard
Redshirt Senior, Winder, Ga. (Winder-Barrow)

Senior guard Chellia Watson turned in a pair of superhuman performances as she averaged 41.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game on the week. On Wednesday, Watson set a then career-high with 36 points, including 15 made field goals, to go with eight rebounds and five assists to lead the Bulls to a win over Bowling Green. She followed that up with a historic performance on Saturday as she set a school record with 47 points on 17-of-30 shooting from the field and 10-of-10 from the free throw line.

The 47 points is the most scored by any player, male or female, in school history and is also the most points scored by any player in Savage Arena history, besting the previous mark of 45 set by Ron Harper (Miami OH) on March 8, 1985.

Watson has now scored in double figures in 17 of 18 games, including 13 20+ point performances, two 30-point efforts and a 40 point performance. She leads the MAC and ranks in the top five in the nation in scoring (24.9 ppg), field goals (178) and field goals made per game (9.9) while also ranking second on the team in total assists (57).
