UNIVERSIRTY PARK, Penn. – The University at Buffalo men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Spiked Shoe Invitational early Friday morning. The women placed fourth of seven teams at the event, with 128 points, while the men finished fifth of six teams, with 152 points.
Freshman
Aleksandra Szulska led the way for the women again, placing 13
th in the 6k run, with a time of 21:42.1. A group of Bulls' finishers fell in two minutes behind, with
Paris Welker (37
th, 22:48.8),
Lacey Danilovitz (41
st, 23:02.4),
Bronagh Cassidy (43
rd, 23:06.4) and
Vassi Klock, (45
rd, 23:12.0) rounding out the Buffalo top five.
Juliette Salazar (46
th, 23:18.6),
Lexi Bernard (49
th, 23:31.6) and
Anna Recktenwalt (50
th, 23:35.0) followed just behind the top-five, rounding out a strong race for the women.
In the men's 5.2-mile race, Senior
William Marchant finished first for Buffalo again too, placing 22
nd with a time of 26:18.8. The next four men's finishers for the Bulls all fell within 17 seconds of each other, with
Matt Gensel (34
th, 26:37.0),
Luke Stoeffler (38th, 26:41.5),
Sean O'Brien (44
th, 26:49.5) and
Jacob Brink (46
th, 26:53.9) rounding out the top five.
Cory Demo (47
th, 26:59.6) and
Noah Brightman (50
th, 27:04.5) fell in just behind the Buffalo top five as well, providing a strong finish for the Bulls to edge out Youngstown St.
"This was a stronger field of competition for the men and the women," said head coach
Vicki Mitchell. "The women started out smart and moved up as the race continued, while the men started aggressively against tough competition."

The Bulls continue the season when they travel to Rochester next Saturday, competing in the University of Rochester's Yellowjacket Invite.
