AKRON Ohio -- The Univiersity of Akron men's track and field squad captured its ninth MAC outdoor track & field title in program history today at Lee R. Jackson Track and Field Complex. The Zips have now won eight of the last 14 league titles overall.
Akron's Charles Sanders won his third consecutive men's outdoor 400 meter and seventh overall MAC title crossing the line first in a season-best time of 46.62, while redshirt sophomore Jimmy Harkelroad registered a school-record time of 50.47 en route to taking his third straight outdoor men's 400-meter hurdle crown and sixth overall league title. In addition, Brian Masai earned his second title of the meet crossing the line first in the men's 5,000 meters in a track-record time of 14:06.16.
The Zips also swept the top-three podium spots in the men's hammer as redshirt sophomore William Gross won his second MAC title with a mark of 210-11 (64.29m). Redshirt senior Milton Wilson and redshirt junior Jabari Neal-Jackson finished second and third, respectively, with marks of 206-2 (62.85m) and 202-9 (61.79m).
Kent State's Asa Hodrick claimed three golds and scored 24.5 points to earn the Most Valuable Performer Award.
