MAC Announces Women's Tennis Players of the Week

Women's Singles Co-Player of the Week
Mariana Carvajal Torres, Buffalo, Junior
Junior Mariana Carvajal Torres stepped up big for Buffalo, going a perfect 3-0 in her matches to lead the Bulls to three wins this weekend. On Friday, she earned a hard-fought 6-2, 4-6, 10-6 three-set victory over Binghamton at third singles and followed that up with a 6-1, 6-0 win at fifth singles. She concluded weekend play with a 6-4, 7-6 win against Quinnipiac at sixth singles to help lead UB to a 6-1 win over the defending MAAC champions. With the wins, the Pereira, Colombia native improved to 10-2 in singles action this season.
 
Nataly Ninova, NIU, Freshman
Freshman Nataly Ninova continued her outstanding rookie season with a pair of straight set singles wins on Saturday while moving up in the Huskie line-up into the No. 3 singles position. Ninova defeated Darinka Stepan of Drake 6-3, 6-2 to record the Huskies' lone singles win of the match. She followed that with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Kasey Schlicht of Wisconsin-Whitewater in the NIU win. Ninova is now 15-2 on the dual match season, including a 5-0 mark at No. 3 singles.
 
Women’s Doubles Team of the Week
Lindsey Zieglar/Valeriya Monko, Western, Senior/Junior
Zielgar and Monko went 2-0 as the Broncos swept Tennesse State and Bethune Cookman. Against TSU they earned a 6-3 win over Naoimi Von Bose and Warona Mdlulwa at No. 1. Against BCU they were agains slotted at No. 1 and earned a 6-1 victory over Diarra Thomas and Janet Imbo Nloga. The pair are 8-3 this Spring, all coming at No. 1
