MAC Announces Tennis Players of the Week

Women's Singles Player of the Week
Amy Kaplan, Ball State, Senior
Kaplan continues to succeed on the court this season for the Cardinals. The senior opened spring break action in California with a three set come from behind victory over Azusa Pacific’s Vini Bautista (2-6, 6-2, 6-0). Kaplan then helped the Cardinals to a 2-0 record in last week's action 2-0 sweep versus UC San Diego’s Ella Pachl, 6-2, 6-3 on court No. 2. Kaplan now owns an overall spring record of 11-1 in singles action helping the Cardinals to one of their best spring non-conference starts with a 11-2 ledger.
 
Women’s Doubles Team of the Week
Sloane Teske/Mariona Perez, Toledo, Senior/Grad
The Toledo women's tennis team, ranked No. 74 in the latest ITA rankings, closed out its non-conference play with a 6-1 victory vs. Florida Gulf Coast, ranked No. 70, on Wednesday afternoon in Fort Myers, Fla. The Rockets won the doubles point thansk to Sloane Teske and Mariona Perez from the No. 1 doubles court. The duo have won the last four matches together and the win improved the Rockets to 9-3 on the season before heading into conference play.
Spring, all coming at No. 1

Men's Singles Player of the Week 
Oliver Valentinsson, NIU, Senior

Oliver Valentinsson improved his win streak to seven matches with a pair of conference victories this past weekend. Playing at number one, Valentinsson opened MAC play with a come from behind victory over Buffalo’s Aleksandr Kalinin, 4-6, 6-2, 7-5. He then scored a 6-1, 6-2 win against Michael Pawlowicz of Binghamton, helping the Huskies complete a weekend sweep to open league play. Valentinsson is now 10-2 in dual matches, with each of his two losses this season coming in three sets.


Men's Doubles Team of the Week
Anton Arzhankin/Fynn Lohse, Western, Sophomore/Senior

Arzhankin and Lohse went 2-0 as the Broncos opened up MAC play with a pair of wins over Binghamton and Buffalo. Against the Bearcats they secured the doubles point to break the 1-1 deadlock with a 6-2 win at No. 2 over William Morais Binnie and Andrew Fang. Against the Bulls, they gave the Broncos a 1-0 advantage in doubles with a win at No. 2 over Cheng Tang and Aleksandr Kalinin. WMU earned both doubles points on the weekend and the duo improved to 3-1 on the season.
