CMU's Lovett, Clarion's Feldkamp Named MAC Co-Wrestlers of the Week

MAC Co-Wrestlers of the Week
Johnny Lovett, Central Michigan, 149 lbs.
Redshirt Junior, Miami, Fla. (Miami Southridge)

Central Michigan redshirt junior Johnny Lovett ran his win streak to seven with a pair of dominant victories in the Chippewas' dual meets with No. 23 Michigan State and No. 11 Michigan. Lovett posted a 12-4 major decision win over MSU's Peyton Omania and then followed with a 12-5 decision victory over Michigan's Chance Lamer. Lovett has won 10 of his last 13 matches and is 15-9.

Will Feldkamp, Clarion, 184 lbs.
Redshirt Senior, Pinckney, Mich. (Dexter)

Feldkamp closed out his 2022-23 dual campaign with a pair of wins by fall, pinning West Virginia's Anthony Carman and #1 Penn State's Donovan Ball in the Golden Eagles' road matches with those opponents. The fall over Carman came quickly, with Feldkamp locking him up and bringing him to the mat just 31 seconds into the first period. That brought Clarion back into the match against the Mountaineers, and the team's decision in the next bout tied things up going into heavyweight. On Sunday Feldkamp notched the only points of the dual for Clarion, pinning Ball in the first period for his 10th win by fall of the season. Feldkamp is now one of only seven wrestlers in the country with 10 or more wins by fall this year.

Other Nominations
Jared McGill, Edinboro, 174 lbs.
Senior, Osterburg, Pa.

McGill picked up a pair of wins with a 4-2 decision over Tyler Stoltzfus of Lock Haven and an 8-2 decision over Anthony DeRosa of Bloomsburg.

Nick Stonecheck, Lock Haven, 149 lbs.
Sophomore, Alpharette, Ga. (Buford)

In The Haven's MAC East clinching dual win over Edinboro, Stonecheck rode out the third on the way to a workmanlike 4-0 decision over Jacob Pail. Stonecheck scored a quick second-period escape and he added a takedown, before securing over two minutes of riding time after a dominating third-period ride. Stonecheck's big win of the week came over No. 26 Sam Hillegas of West Virginia. Stonecheck thrilled and reenergized the home crowd. He used a second-period reversal and grinded out the upset-win over Hillegas to cap a 2-0 week in which he did not allow a point.

Anthony Gibson, NIU, 157 lbs.
Redshirt senior, Westland, Mich. (John Glenn)

Before the Huskies beat SIUE 25-12 Sunday afternoon to close the regular season, redshirt senior Anthony Gibson fended off a Cougar comeback at 157 lbs.  SIUE came within one point (7-6) after two-straight wins at 141 and 149, but Gibson put an end to the retaliation, pinning Caine Tyus in just :57 seconds, his quickest and fifth fall of the year.

Zayne Lehman, Ohio, 184 lbs.
Sophomore, Akron, Ohio (Revere)

Sophomore Zayne Lehman defeated Buffalo's Giuseppe Hoose on Saturday (Feb. 18); in the midseason NCAA rankings, Hoose was ranked 22nd at 184 pounds. The dual was tight, with Lehman coming out on top, winning by 8-5 decision. Lehman is undefeated against MAC opponents.

Colton McKiernan, SIUE, 285 lbs.
Senior, Richmond, Mich. (Richmond)

McKiernan closed out a dominating regular season in which he went 8-0 in MAC matches, including a 3-0 victory over Northern Illinois' Terrese Aaron to close out the regular season. He holds a team-leading 24-3 individual record and was a perfect 13-0 in dual meets this season. Not including his six falls, McKiernan has had 12 wins in which he did not give up a point. He will be the likely No. 1 seed at 285 pounds at next month's MAC Championships in Fairfax, Va.
