MAC Announces Singles Players and Doubles Teams of the Week

Women's Singles Player of the Week
Sloan Teske, Toledo, Senior

The University of Toledo women's tennis team extended its winning streak to six matches and remain a perfect 4-0 on the road, with back-to-back victories this weekend over UIC and DePaul. The Rockets defeated UIC 6-1, where Sloane Teske defeated Tamara Malazonia 6-4, 6-3. The next day, The Rockets defeated DePaul, 7-0, and Teske won vs. Hannah Smith 6-3, 6-4. Both wins push Teske's winning streak to 11 matches from the No. 2 court. 
 
Women’s Doubles Team of the Week
Wanyi Zhang/Daniella Shved, Eastern, Freshman/Freshman
The doubles team of Wanyi Zhang and Daniella Shved continued their impressive start to the 2023 spring season with a win against Chicago State University, Feb. 10. The duo, who picked up a 6-3 win in the No. 3 position, moved to a perfect 2-0 on the season. They have each of EMU's two doubles victories this season, and have dropped a total of just five games in those matches. 

Men's Singles Player of the Week 
Pawit Sornlaksup, Toledo, Junior

Pawit Sornlaksup extended his winning streak to 28-straight matches after picking up three more wins from the No. 1 court this weekend. Sornlaksup defended the top court vs. Cedric Drenth (WSU) 6-4, 6-3; vs. Dayton's top player Connor Bruce 6-2, 7-6(8); and Xavier's Ryan Cahill 6-3, 6-0.

Men's Doubles Team of the Week
Mikael Vollbach and Cheng En Tsai, NIU, Junior/Junior

Mikael Vollbach and Cheng En Tsai paired to win a pair of doubles matches this weekend for the Huskies. The NIU duo, playing at number one, opened with a 6-4 victory over Creighton’s Alejandro Gandini and Matthew Lanahan. The Huskie pair then bettered Davis Lawley and Hugo Piles of Omaha, 6-4, for their fourth consecutive victory to improve to 4-1 on the season.
