OXFORD, Ohio – On Saturday afternoon the Miami University field hockey team claimed their sixth consecutive Mid-American Conference Tournament Championship after defeating Kent State University 3-1. The RedHawks head into the NCAA tournament with a 14-7 record. The Golden Flashes end their season with an 8-11 record.

The RedHawks showed a dominant offense through the first quarter, but at its end the game remained scoreless at 0-0.

With under a minute and a half remaining in the first half, Reese Wearren broke the tie score after taking a deflection off the Kent State goalkeeper to the back of the net. This made it a 1-0 game heading into the second half of play.

Two minutes into the third quarter Paula Peña Martinez took a backhand shot off the far post to double the RedHawk lead to 2-0. Miami held their strong 2-0 lead through the end of the third quarter.

Under three minutes into the final quarter during a penalty corner, Paula Navarro hit one in off of the upper crossbar to push Miami's lead to 3-0.

On a penalty corner in the middle of the fourth quarter, Kent State got a goal of their own to cut the lead to 3-1. This was not enough for the Golden Flashes to come back. The RedHawks took the Championship title for the sixth year in a row, 3-1.
