MAC Announces Field Hockey All-MAC And Specialty Award Winners

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced its 2023 field hockey All-MAC teams, its Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Goalkeeper of the Year, Freshman of the Year and Coach of the Year on Thursday, as voted by the league's head coaches.

App State's Emily Dinsmore and Ohio's Ali Johnstone were named MAC Co-Coaches of the Year, while Ohios’s Katelyn Whittle was named the MAC Offensive Player of the Year. Ball State’s Michaela Graney took home Defensive Player of the Year honors, while Addie Clark picked up Goalkeeper of the Year recognition. Kent State’s Eva Usoz rounded out the Speciality Awards by being named the Freshman of the Year.

App State finished the regular season as co-champions with a 6-1 MAC record, 14-4 overall. Emily Dinsmore, in her first season as head coach, has the most wins in her premiere season than any other first-year head coach in App State history. Goalkeeper, Addie Clark, was a large reason for the Mountaineers success. She allowed the fewest goals in the MAC this season and posted an 11-3 record in 15 games this year.

Ohio's Ali Johnstone led her team back into the MAC Field Hockey Tournament after falling short last year. MAC Offensive Player of the Year, Katelyn Whittle, helped lead the Bobcats as well. In MAC play, Whittle had played and started all six matches, recording 10 goals and four assists for 24 points. She also has 25 shots with 21 shots on goal for .840 shots on goal percentage.

The MAC Field Hockey Championship semifinals will take place on Friday as No. 1 Miami takes on No. 4 Ohio at 11:30 am ET, while No. 2  App State will face off against No. 3 Kent State at 2:30 pm ET. The Championship match will take place on Saturday, November 4th at 2 pm ET. The winner will take home the MAC title and will earn a guaranteed spot in the upcoming NCAA Field Hockey Tournament.
