Women's Tennis Athletes of the Week Announced

MAC Women’s Tennis Singles Player of the Week
Luisa Pelayo, Eastern Michigan
Redshirt Senior, Porto, Portugal       
Redshirt senior Luisa Pelayo put on a show in the No. 1 singles spot for Eastern Michigan, Feb. 18. Pelayo started the day with a 6-2, 6-0, win against Northwood. The redshirt senior followed that performance by taking on a two-time All-Big Ten selection in Mary Lewis of Michigan State, at the No. 1 spot, and beating her 7-5, 6-4. That effort is the first point over a "Power Five" opponent in the Jayson Wiseman era. The Portugal native ended 2-0 in the doubleheader as the Eagles finished the day 1-1.
 
MAC Women’s Tennis Doubles Players of the Week
Erika Dimitriev/Anastasia Rakita, NIU          
NIU's No. 1 doubles team of Erika Dimitriev and Anastasia Rakita scored a pair of victories in the Huskies' wins over Pacific and Cardinal Stritch Saturday as NIU went 2-0 on the week. Versus Pacific, a team that came into the match undefeated, Dimitriev and Rakita scored a 6-4 win over Klara Kosan and Danielle Zamora, contributing to the Huskies' taking the doubles point. In the afternoon, they defeated CSU's No. 1 duo, 6-1, to improve their season record to 6-3. The Huskies went on to defeat Cardinal Stritch 7-0 to improve to 7-3 on the season.
