ROSEMONT, Ill. – Senior Reily Galloway tossed a complete game and allowed just four hits, as the Western Michigan softball team came away with a 6-2 victory in the 2022 season opener vs. Eastern Illinois at the DePaul Dome Tournament Thursday night.
The Broncos broke open the scoring in the third inning when senior Jordyn Swinehart drilled a single to right center, scoring Taylor Wolfe and Maggie Kehoe. Freshman Darcy Barkauskas followed it up with a 2-RBI single to right field, driving in Swinehart and Alyssa Kramer to put the Broncos ahead, 4-0.
Kramer then blasted a two-run homer in the top of the sixth to put WMU ahead 6-0. Eastern Illinois (0-1) scored two in the bottom of the frame, but it was not enough as WMU cruised to victory.
Galloway struck out seven batters, walked just one, and went 1-for-3 at the plate. Each of the top five Broncos in the lineup registered a hit, including the home run from Kramer at the leadoff spot, and Kehoe hit a double batting eighth.
The Broncos will take on Seattle and tournament host DePaul Friday afternoon and evening. Stay tuned to WMUbroncos.com, as well as @WMUsoftball on Twitter for updates and live statistics and results.
