West Division Offensive Player of the Week
Maggie King, Outside Hitter, Western Michigan
King racked up 29 kills (4.83/set) on a .279 hitting percentage, 31.5 points (5.25/set) and added a pair of service aces (0.33/set) as Western Michigan swept Eastern Michigan over the weekend. In Friday's 3-0 win, King picked up 14 kills and an ace for the Broncos. The senior then picked up her team-leading 12th double-double of the season on Saturday, as she totaled 15 kills on a .367 hitting percentage and added 10 digs in WMU's 3-0 victory.
West Division Co-Defensive Player of the Week
Maggie Huber, Libero, Ball State
Senior libero Maggie Huber led the Ball State defense with a 6.67 digs-per-set average in a two-match series sweep of Kent State, helping the Cardinals claim their fifth MAC West Division championship in the past six season. She opened the week with 24 digs in Thursday’s sweep, which were the most digs in a three-set match for the Cardinals this season. She followed with 16 digs on her senior night Friday, helping Ball State earn its fourth consecutive sweep of the season. Both dig totals were match-highs. In addition to her solid dig numbers, Huber was perfect in serve receive, successfully passing all 13 serves she faced. She also dished out nine assists on the week.
West Division Co-Defensive Player of the Week
Francesca Bertucci, Libero, Northern Illinois
Francesca Bertucci (Chicago, Ill./De La Salle) logged her 1,000th career dig in Friday night's match versus CMU, a milestone not many have accomplished in only their first two seasons. That was the cherry on top of an already stellar weekend. She had 30 digs in the weekend's opener before adding another 19 the following night; both were match-highs. In total, Bertucci had 49 (7/s) digs and only two errors through the weekend.
West Division Setter of the Week
Megan Wielonski, Setter, Ball State
Sophomore setter Megan Wielonski led Ball State to its fifth MAC West Division title in the last six seasons by guiding the team to a league-best .342 attack percentage in a pair of sweeps over Kent State last week. Wielonski handed out 67 total assists over the six sets played, for a 11.17 assists-per-set average. She also averaged 2.67 digs, 0.83 aces and 0.83 kills-per-set. In Thursday’s sweep, she dished out 35 assists and 10 digs for her 16th double-double of the season. In Friday’s sweep, she registered 32 assists, while tying her season-high with four service aces.
East Division Offensive Player of the Week
Mia Tyler, Outside Hitter, Bowling Green
Bowling Green sophomore Mia Tyler was a leader on the BGSU attack over the weekend. Tyler began the weekend with 15 kills over five sets, coming just two shy of her career-high. Tyler finished the match second on the team in kills and second in attack percentage as well with a mark of .414. As for Saturday, Tyler again finished second on the team in kills, this time landing nine in three sets. Tyler also matched her career-high with an attack percentage of .429 in the match. In addition, she logged five block assists, tying for the team lead in the stat.
East Division Defensive Player of the Week
Yelianiz Torres, Libero, Bowling Green
Bowling Green senior Yelianiz Torres had a strong weekend for the Falcons. Torres began the weekend by logging a season-high 34 digs over five sets, coming two shy of matching her career-high. She added seven assists in the match as well. As for the second match of the weekend, Torres registered 19 digs in just three sets, averaging 6.33 per set. Her stat line was completed with four assists and one ace.
East Division Setter of the Week
Jaden Walz/Hannah Laube, Setters, Bowling Green
The Bowling Green setter duo of Jaden Walz and Hanna Laube led the Falcon attack to a .318 attack percentage this past weekend. In the first match of the week, both Walz and Laube came just shy of double-doubles. Walz concluded with 25 assists and seven digs while Laube registered 28 assists and eight digs. The two also led an attack that finished with a .292 mark. As for the second match of the weekend, Walz and Laube set up the most efficient BGSU attack this season, finishing with a .364 attack percentage. The Falcons registered a percentage of at least .355 in each set. Individually, Walz narrowly missed a double-double once again, ending with 19 assists and seven digs. Laube added 14 assists and two digs.
