West Division Offensive Player of the Week
Mallory Hernandez, Outside Hitter, Central Michigan
Mallory Hernandez led the Chippewas to a 3-sweep weekend in their home McGuirk Arena. The 5th year swung for a .538 on the weekend, tallying 41 kills on 65 attempts. The weekend was highlighted for the Fishers, Ind. native with a 17 kill, .810 night on Sunday defeating the Miami (Ohio) RedHawks in 3 straight sets. Alongside her great attacking this weekend, Hernandez totaled 7 block assists and 44.5 points for the Chippewas.
West Division Defensive Player of the Week
Ryann Jaqua, Libero, Toledo
Ryann Jaqua averaged a team-best 6.09 digs/set last week across three matches vs. Ball State and Northern Illinois. Jaqua tallied at least 20 digs in all three contests this past week. She had 20 in the match against Ball State on Wednesday and 23 in the three-set sweep of NIU on Friday. Jaqua closed out her weekend with 24 digs against Northern Illinois on Saturday. She ranks third in the MAC in digs (5.30/set).
West Division Setter of the Week
Megan Wielonski, Setter, Ball State
Sophomore setter Megan Wielonski had another brilliant week for the Ball State women’s volleyball team, helping guide the Cardinals to a 3-0 record and a tie for the top spot in the Mid-American Conference standings. She led all league players with 151 assists and a 12.58 assists-per-set average, while adding 31 total digs for a 2.58 digs-per-set average. She ran the Ball State offense at a .300 clip over the three wins, including a .327 rate of success in Friday’s victory over Western Michigan in which she dished out a season-high 59 assists over four sets. Wielonski also tallied 14 digs in Friday’s win over WMU for her 14th assist/dig double-double of the season. In addition, she served up three aces on the week, with one in each match.
East Division Offensive Player of the Week
Emma Gielas, Right Side Hitter, Buffalo
Emma Gielas came in clutch for the Bulls against Kent State in Thursday’s and Friday’s straight set victories. She was the catalyst the Bulls needed to secure wins against the Golden Flashes. Over the course of the weekend, she finished with an over hitting percentage of .383 (26-3-60) with a team leading 26 kills and 4.33 kills per set. She added a service ace, two digs, six total blocks, finished with a total of 30.0 points.
East Division Defensive Player of the Week
Maria Futey, Libero, Buffalo
Libero Maria Futey finished the weekend with 36 digs against Kent State. Playing in all six sets, she helped the Bulls to back-to-back sweeps of the Golden Flashes. With a total of 36 digs, she added four assists, one ace, and was perfect with 18 receptions. Futey averaged 6.00 digs per set against the Golden Flashes.
East Division Setter of the Week
Parker Kwiatkowski/Tria McLean, Setters, Ohio
Setters Parker Kwiatkowski and Tria McLean had an outstanding week, registering a combined 140 assists and averaging 11.66 assists per set. The duo also collected a total of 50 digs for 4.17 digs per set. Kwiatkowski recorded a double-double with 47 assists and 17 digs, leading the Kent State match in both categories. McLean did the same in first match with Akron, pocketing 19 assists and 13 digs. Additionally, the setters both registered more assists than the Akron leader in each match.
