MAC Announces Co-Wrestlers of the Week
Mason Kauffman, Northern Illinois, R-Sr.

Mason Kauffman improved to 12-6 on the season after an incredible run in the 2021 Illinois Matmen Open. The Huskie senior went 3-1 in the two-day event and advanced to the championship match at 174. Kauffman, who earned a first round bye, defeated Graham Calhoun of Wisconsin, 7-4, in his first match of the event. Following a 6-3 win over Harvard's Josh Kim in the quarterfinals, Kauffman posted a 5-2 victory over Reese Heller of Hofstra in the semis. However, his run came to an end with a 3-2 loss to Lehigh's Edmond Roth in the championship match.
Alex Carida, Bloomsburg, Senior
Hackettstown, N.J. (Hackettstown) – 157 lbs.
No. 33 ranked Carida went 4-2 overall in the Illinois Matmen Open to take fourth place in the 157 pound bracket. On the first day of the tournament, Carida received a first-round bye and went on to earn his way to the quarterfinals with a third-period fall in the second round. Carida pinned Tyler Badgett of the University of Pittsburgh at 5:29 for his first win of the day. In the quarterfinals, Carida earned a 7-2 win over the No. 3 seed, Jake Keating of Virginia University, to advance to the semifinals and secure a place-winner for the Huskies. After dropping a last-second 3-1 decision to Doug Zapf, Carida defeated Brawley Lamer in his first match in the consolation bracket, 11-5, to advance to the third-place bout. Carida and Keating once again faced off for third place, but after Carida got a take down in the third period to tie the match at 3-3, Keating escaped and earned the riding point for the 5-3 win and Carida settled for fourth overall.
