Kent State Wins MAC Men’s FAR Award

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Kent State University men’s athletics program has been named the winner of the 2020-21 Mid-American Conference Men’s Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) Academic Achievement Award.

The FAR Awards are designed to recognize the Conference institution with the highest overall combination of both grade point average (GPA) and Academic Progress Rate (APR) rank by gender.  The GPA’s were based upon the 2020-21 academic year.

The Conference FAR’s worked with the Athletic Academic Advisors to compute an award that best represents the academic achievement of student-athletes in a competitive setting.  The FAR Awards are given to those institutions’ male and female programs with the highest overall combination of GPA and APR within the Conference.  Only MAC sponsored sports are used.

“I am thrilled with the successes in the classroom of our men’s programs this past year leading to this considerable achievement” said Director Athletics Randale L. Richmond. “We pride ourselves in athletic successes, but equally important is an elite performance in the classroom. I am very proud of the work put in by our talented student-athletes.”

Five Kent State men's athletic programs posted a 3.20 GPA or higher. Kent State had single year perfect score APR rankings of 1,000 in baseball, men's basketball, men's golf and men's cross country. In addition, men's golf and men's cross country averaged a perfect score APR ranking of 1,000 over the previous four seasons.
