NIU Captures First Indoor Track and Field Title in Program History


MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - The Northern Illinois Huskies captured their first Women's Indoor Track and Field Championship in program history on Saturday with a final point total of 127.

The Huskies Ashley Tutt had an impressive day winning three events for NIU. Tutt tallied victories in the mile run, 5000m, and set a new MAC meet record in the 3000m.  

Kent State’s Gabrielle Bailey continued the Golden Flashes success in the shot put events with a throw of 16.84m as she joins teammate Leah Pasqualetti as the two Flashes to win field event titles.

The 60m dash saw the Huskies on the top of the podium again as Kimone Hines notched a 7.45 to win gold! 

Jacqueline Pokuaah tallied three event wins for the Akron Zips saturday evening with victories in the long jump, the 60m hurdles and the triple jump. 

In the relay events, the Bowling Green Falcons captured both the DMR and the 4x400 event crowns. Savannah Nevels and Lyanna Ross also tallied wins for BGSU in the 200m and 400m respectively.
