Ball State:
Schweikert's Vault Highlights Strong Gymnastics Opener

IOWA CITY - The Ball State gymnastics team opened its 2020 season with a solid performance in Big Ten country on Saturday, placing second in a tri-meet at Iowa. BSU's team score placed behind host Iowa and was enough to outscore Air Force. 

On the scoreboard, Stefanie Schweikert's vault, Arden Hudson's beam and Claudia Goyco's floor routine led the Cardinals. Schweikert, second team All-MAC on vault last year, was the meet's top scorer in that event with a 9.825 mark. No other gymnast reached 9.800. Hudson scored 9.800 on vault to tie for second in the meet and Goyco's 9.825 mark on the floor tied for fifth in the meet.  Full Story...

Bowling Green:
Jovannah East Wins All-Around As Falcons Open Season

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Senior Jovannah East scored a 39.300 to win the all-around in Bowling Green's first gymnastics meet of the season. The Falcons, however, lost to Mid-American Conference rival Eastern Michigan 194.875-193.325. A youthful Falcon team unveiled a lineup in which 15 of the 24 rotations were taken by gymnasts who had never competed collegiately in the event. Despite the inexperience, BGSU went into the final rotation in striking distance to defeat the Eagles. But the Falcons got off to a slow start on the floor and were unable to recover.  Full Story...

Chippewas Top Michigan State

EAST LANSING, Mich. –  Central Michigan freshman Hannah Demers won the vault and uneven parallel bars and senior Denelle Pedrick won the floor exercise on Saturday as the Central Michigan gymnastics team opened the 2020 season with a victory in a nonconference tri-meet over Michigan State and Illinois State at MSU's Jenison Field House.  The Chippewas posted a 195.675 team score, a very solid number considering that it came in the season-opening meet and on the road. Eastern Michigan:
Gymnastics Opens 2020 Season With Victory Over The Falcons

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team claimed victory in its season-opener at Bowling Green State University Saturday, Jan. 11, with a final score of 194.875-193.325. The Green and White had five gymnasts see their first collegiate action in the victory.

EMU started the day on bars as junior Jada Rondeau led the way with a score of 9.850, tying her career-best on the apparatus. The Savage, Minn. native was followed by fellow classmate Cortney Bezold, who earned a 9.800, helping Eastern Michigan to claim first and second place respectively. Sophomore Kara Roberts also chipped in a score of 9.750, tying for third. Freshmen Arileyah Harris and Hannah Hartung both made their collegiate debut, and each tallied 9.700's. Kent State:
Flashes Drop Opener To NIU

KENT, Ohio – The Kent State Gymnastics team began its season at home in the M.A.C. Center against Northern Illinois. Northern Illinois took home the victory with an overall team score of 193.175. The Flashes scored a 193.125 as a team. Senior Jade Brown and freshman Karlie Franz tied for the floor title, scoring a 9.825. Franz also added 9.700 on both vault and beam in her first collegiate meet.  Full Story...

NIU Gymnastics Opens Season with MAC Comeback Win

KENT, Ohio – The Northern Illinois University women's gymnastics team opened defense of its Mid-American Conference title Sunday with a 193.175-193.125 come-from-behind victory over Kent State at the M.A.C. Center in Kent, Ohio. Trailing by a huge margin of 1.6 points after several mishaps on bars in the first rotation, NIU came through with solid performances on both vault and floor exercise before the balance beam team gave the Huskies the victory with a 48.950 score to overtake the Flashes.  Full Story...

Western Michigan:
WMU Wraps Up Western Swing with Arizona Quad Meet

TUCSON, Ariz. - The Western Michigan gymnastics team placed fourth out of four teams at the Arizona Quad Meet with the University of Arizona, Iowa State and Rutgers on Saturday. The Broncos scored a 191.800, while the host Wildcats won with a 195.950. The Cyclones finished second with 195.750 and the Knights posted a 194.250 to take third.

WMU had its highest finish of the day on the floor, where junior Stacie Harrison took second with a 9.850. The performance was the highest floor score of the campaign for the Broncos. Junior Morgan Spence tied for third on the floor with a 9.825. Full Story...
