Wrestling Suffers 28-9 Setback At Ohio
ATHENS, Ohio - The Bloomsburg University wrestling team suffered its third consecutive loss on Sunday afternoon as it dropped a 28-9 decision at Ohio University. The Huskies fell to 2-6 overall and 0-5 in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) while the Bobcats improved to 6-6 overall and 4-3 against conference foes. Things started out strong for the Huskies as freshman Christian Gannone picked up a 4-1 victory over Ohio's Derek Giallombardo at 125 pounds to give Bloomsburg a 3-0 advantage. Gannone improved to 8-10 overall and 3-5 in dual competition.

Chippewas Post 3rd Straight Dual Victory
CLEVELAND – The Central Michigan wrestling team won six matches, all by decision, on Sunday in topping Cleveland State, 18-13, in a Mid-American Conference dual at the Vikings' Woodling Gym. It was CMU's third-consecutive dual victory as it improved to 5-4, 5-2 MAC. Cleveland State is 8-4, 4-4 MAC. CMU got victories from Drew Hildebrandt (125 pounds), Dresden Simon (141), Mason Breece (149), Logan Parks (157), Jake Lowell(174) and Matt Stencel (285).

Chippewa Wrestlers Surge Past Ohio
ATHENS, Ohio -- The Central Michigan wrestling team recorded three pins and a major decision in winning five matches on Friday to top Ohio, 25-15, in a Mid-American Conference dual at the Bobcats' Convocation Center. The win lifted CMU to 4-4, 4-2 MAC. Ohio, which had won three-consecutive duals, is 5-6, 3-3. The Chippewas got pins from Drew Hildebrandt (125 pounds), Ben Cushman (184) and Matt Stencel (285) and a 9-1 major from Drew Marten (133). CMU's Landon Pelham (197) won by decision.

Clarion:
Three Golden Eagle Wrestlers Place at Edinboro Open
EDINBORO, Pa. – With three placers among their ranks, the Clarion wrestling team posted a sixth-place finish at the 2020 Edinboro Open, with two wrestlers taking fifth place and another sixth in the midseason event. Jake Gromacki and Caleb Hetrick posted fifth-place finishes in the 125- and 165-pound brackets respectively, while freshman John Worthing took sixth place at 157 pounds. In the case of the former two athletes, they each won each of their first two bouts of the day before dropping a decision and going into the consolation bracket. Worthing had a first round bye but lost in the second round, but then went on to win four straight matches before falling in the fifth-place match.

Vikings Fall To Chippewas
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Cleveland State University wrestling team was in Sunday's dual all the way until the end, but Central Michigan did just enough to edge past the Vikings, 18-13, in Mid-American Conference action at Woodling Gymnasium. The Chippewas boast a lineup loaded with top-end talent as they had four wrestlers compete Sunday ranked inside the top 15 nationally. All four of those wrestlers claimed a victory against the Vikings, but none of the four secured bonus points. Central Michigan took the lead with a win by the top-ranked wrestler in the conference at 125 pounds.

Vikings Win Thriller Over Kent State
KENT, Ohio -- The Cleveland State University wrestling team dug itself a huge early hole, but the Vikings did not give up and rallied to claim a thrilling 16-15 victory at Kent State Saturday evening at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center. The Vikings took a four-point lead into the final match, but the team outcome was still in doubt in the final seconds of the bout as Kent State had a chance to tie the dual with a major decision. However, redshirt freshman Riley Smucker was able to avoid the worst-case scenario to ensure a CSU victory. The win over Kent State is the first for Cleveland State since the 2003-04 season, although the programs have not faced each other every season in that time.

Edinboro:
Ancewicz and Spaulding Place at Edinboro Open
EDINBORO, Pa. - The Edinboro wrestling team hosted the annual Edinboro Open today in the Mike S. Zafirovski Sports & Recreation Dome. Zach Ancewicz placed fifth while Jon Spaulding placed sixth. The Fighting Scots had eleven wrestlers competing in the open. Ancewicz lost his first match to come back in the consolation round and place fifth. During the fifth place match, Ancewicz was tied 1-1 in the third period against Lehigh's Elijah Jones. With 17 seconds left, Ancewicz scored a takedown to win 3-1, placing fifth. He now has a record of 17-4.

Kent State:
Vikings Rally To Spoil Senior Day
KENT, OHIO- Kent State honored their five-man senior class but Cleveland State rallied back to defeat the Flashes 16-15 on Saturday night at the M.A.C. Center. The Flashes honored Kade Byland, Lane Hinkle, Shane Mast, Tim Rooney and Cory Simpson in a pre-dual ceremony before taking on the local and conference rival Vikings. Andrew McNally got things started for the Golden Flashes with a dominant 13-5 major decision to give Kent State the early lead. Shane Mast ended his home career on a strong note, grinding out a 3-2 decision at 184 pounds. Colin McCracken followed suit with a decisive win at 197 pounds at the Flashes raced out to a 10-0 lead through three matches.

Wrestling headlines Edinboro Open, Fehlman a champ at 133
EDINBORO, Pa. – DJ Fehlman went 4-0 and claimed the 133-pound title to lead the way for the Lock Haven University wrestling team on Sat, Feb. 1 at the Edinboro Open. Competing unattached at 157, Jonathan Ross was second overall. The Bald Eagles added the Edinboro Open tournament to the schedule earlier this week and several LHU wrestlers made the trip to hit the mats today, competing both attached, and unattached. Brock Port was fourth at 149, Austin Bell placed fourth at 165 and Parker McClellan finished fourth at 197.

No. 24 Mizzou Wrestling Falls Short at No. 11 OSU as Mauller Posts Huge Win
STILLWATER, Okla. – No. 24 Mizzou Wrestling came up short at No. 11 Oklahoma State, 26-6, Sunday afternoon at historic Gallagher-Iba Arena. It was the 33rd all-time meeting between to two college wrestling blue bloods. After a huge Mizzou win at 149 pounds, the Tigers were looking to take the lead in the dual, but lost close bouts at 157 pounds (first tiebreaker) and 174 pounds (a takedown with less than 10 seconds remaining) and couldn't recover from dropping those two swing matches. Mizzou falls to 10-6 on the season while Oklahoma State moves to 9-2 on the year.
The highlight of the dual for Mizzou came at 149 pounds in one of the nation's premier bouts this weekend between No. 6 Brock Mauller of Mizzou and top-ranked Boo Lewallen of Oklahoma State. Mauller trailed, 3-0, moving into the final period, but tallied an escape and then a late takedown with about a half-minute remaining to tie the bout. He scored a takedown midway through the sudden victory period to earn the 5-3 win, handing Lewallen his first loss of the season.

Huskies Down Cougars, 29-9
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University wrestling team got back in the win column with a 29-9 victory over conference foe and in-state rival SIUE, 29-9, Saturday. The Huskies (9-4, 4-2) won seven of the 10 bouts, scoring a pair of maj. dec. and pin victories on the night. NIU came out strong, winning the first three matches. Bryce West set the tone with a first period pin to put the Huskies a 6-0 lead. A 12-2 maj. dec. win by Caleb Brooks at 133 and a 6-2 victory by Anthony Gibson gave NIU a 13-0 advantage. SIUE responded with wins a 149 and 157, however, Izzak Olejnik restored order with an 11-3 maj. dec. over Chase Diehl at 165.

Ohio Wrestling Records Decisive Win Over Bloomsburg
ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio wrestling team (6-6, 4-3 MAC) recorded its fourth Mid-American Conference victory in its last five conference duals, taking down Bloomsburg (2-5, 0-4 MAC) in decisive fashion, 28-9, this afternoon at the Convocation Center. The Bobcats won seven of the final nine bouts to beat the Huskies by 19 points. Freshman Christian Gannone gave Bloomsburg a 3-0 lead with a 4-1 win by decision at 125 pounds to open the match, but the Bobcats won each of the next six weight classes to take control.

Ohio Wrestling Falls to Central Michigan in Return to Convo
ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio wrestling team (5-6, 3-3 MAC) was back in action at the Convocation Center tonight for the first of five consecutive home matches, falling to Mid-American Conference rival Central Michigan (4-4, 4-2 MAC) by the score of 25-15. The Bobcats won six of the 10 matches on the night, but bonus points from some of the Chippewas' four victories proved to be the decisive factor in the overall score. Ohio dropped the first two matches, as redshirt freshman Derek Giambollardo (Petoskey, Mich.) was pinned in the third period by No. 9-ranked redshirt junior Drew Hildebrandt at 125 pounds, and redshirt freshman Giovanni DiSabato (Hilliard, Ohio) dropped a 9-1 major decision to redshirt sophomore Drew Marten at 133 pounds.

Wrestling Falls to No. 7 Virginia Tech, 23-9
NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion wrestling team (6-9, 4-2 MAC) earned three ranked victories against No. 7 Virginia Tech (10-1, 1-1 ACC), but was eventually defeated by the Hokies, 23-9 in a dual where the program celebrated its alumni and honored former Monarch Jamie Kelly. Three Monarchs came away with ranked victories over their Hokie counterparts in the dual, one of which came from unranked senior Kenan Carter, who defeated No. 23 Bryce Andonian at 149 pounds.

Cougars Fall To Huskies
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Colton McKiernan capped off Saturday's SIUE wrestling meet against Northern Illinois with a thriller. Northern Illinois, 9-4 overall and 4-2 in the Mid-American Conference, would win the meet 29-9, but the Cougars walked away with the final individual victory. McKiernan and Northern Illinois' Max Ihry went into overtime tied 1-1. McKiernan earned an extra point on a escape. Ihry picked up a point on a second stalling call, but McKiernan continued to wrestle, pulling off a takedown with two seconds left in overtime.

SIUE Collects 26-12 Rout Over Little Rock
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - SIUE wrestling won the last six matches of Thursday's dual meet against Little Rock, earning a 26-12 triumph in First Community Arena at the Vadalabene Center. It was the season debut for redshirt senior Nate Higgins. The former NCAA Championships participant was inserted into the lineup late and made the most of his first match, earning an 11-2 major decision over Little Rock's Tristan Tadeo at 174 pounds. SIUE Head Coach Jeremy Spates watched his team come from behind against the Trojans for its first home win of the season.
