TOLEDO WINS INSTITUTIONAL ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
CLEVELAND, OHIO – The University of Toledo has been named the winner of the 2018-19 Mid-American Conference Institutional Academic Achievement Award. Toledo posted an overall athletic grade point average (GPA) of 3.277 for the 2018-19 academic year based on 365 students in 16 sports. This marks the second consecutive year for the Toledo athletic program to earn this prestigious honor. Toledo has won this honor for the fourth time in the last five years and the sixth time in the last eight years.
"We put tremendous emphasis on academic excellence at The University of Toledo, so it is very gratifying to know that our student-athletes are being recognized for their superior achievement in the class room,” said Toledo vice president and athletic director Mike O’Brien. “This is the second year in a row we set the school-record for our department grade-point average, and the sixth time in the past eight years we have win the MAC Institutional Achievement Award. That consistency speaks to the determined efforts of our student-athletes, as well the outstanding support they receive from the parents, coaches, classroom instructors and Student Athletic Academic Services staff members."
The honor is presented annually to the MAC institution which achieves the highest overall institutional GPA for student-athletes competing in institutionally sponsored sports for the academic year. A list of each top-three school’s 2017-18 GPA follows:
