AKRON, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced Tuesday afternoon, on the eve of the 2019 MAC Softball Tournament opening round, the regular season award winners for the 2019 season.  Along with the All-MAC First and Second teams, the conference office also announced the All-Freshman team and individual awards as voted on by the 11 head coaches of the MAC.

Kent State’s Brenna Brownfield was named the 2019 MAC Player of the Year. Brownfield leads the MAC in batting average (.488), was fourth in slugging percentage (.791) and third on base percentage (.578). She recorded eight multi-hit games, five multi-RBI games and reached base in all but one conference game.

Andrea Scali of Kent State capped off an incredible Redshirt-Freshman season by being named the 2019 MAC Pitcher of the Year and 2019 Freshman of the Year. Scali lead the MAC in ERA (1.00), wins (9), and shutouts (4). The Freshman was also two-time National Pitcher of the Week from USA Softball and NFCA. She was also named MAC Pitcher of the Week five times which was the most in the conference. Scali ended the season throwing a seven inning perfect game against Bowling Green with a career-best 14 strikeouts.

The recipient of the 2019 Nan Harvey Award is Ohio's Michaela Dorsey Nan Harvey’s dedication and passion for women’s sports and the game of softball were shown through her everyday commitment to excellence. She was a part of the University at Buffalo family for over two decades where she helped shape the women’s softball, basketball and volleyball programs.

Throughout her five years with the Bobcats, Michaela Dorsey has never once lost her spirit for the game, or her love of Ohio Softball. After redshirting her freshman year due to injury, Dorsey came back the following year and would contribute over the next three seasons, even while learning to navigate being a Division I athlete with Diabetes.

While able to get her Diabetes under control, and dealing with minor bumps and bruises along the way, Dorsey was a major contributor to the Bobcats 2018 MAC Championship season, hitting the game-winning two-run homerun in the MAC Championship game, helping Ohio head back to the NCAA Regionals for the first time since 2014. That season, Dorsey played in 51 games, batting .329 with eight homeruns and 33 RBI, even becoming the first Bobcat outfielder to be named NFCA All-Region, earning a spot on the Mideast Third Team, while also being named to the MAC All-Tournament Team.

Dorsey was heavily involved in community sevice innitiatives including Rufus Reads, Big Brothers Big Sisters, SAAC Food Drive, and Athletes in Action.

Miami's Clarisa Crowell was named the 2019 MAC coach of the year after leading the RedHawks to a 33-14 record overall record this season and capturing the first Regular Season MAC title in program history. The RedHawks will begin the 2019 MAC Tournament on Wednesday against Western Michigan.
