AKRON, Ohio -- The Akron women's basketball teams season continues as the Zips accept an invitation to compete in the 10th annual Women's Basketball Invitational, the WBI announced on Monday night.
Akron heads to Cookville, Tenn., to take on Tennessee Tech on Thursday, March 21, in the first round of the postseason tournament. Tip-off between the Zips and the Golden Eagles is scheduled for 6 p.m from inside the Eblen Center.
The Zips will compete at the WBI for the second time in program history, will make its seventh postseason appearance, and its first since the Zips WNIT appearance in 2016.
As the 2018-19 campaign came to a close, the Zips finished with a 16-14 overall record and went 7-11 in Mid-American Conference play. Redshirt senior Megan Sefcik (Austintown, Ohio) was named to the Mid-American Conference All-MAC Second Team.
in the Zips first season under the guidance of first-year head coach Melissa Jackson, UA improved by seven wins from last season and captured four more conference victories. The Akron team also became the just eighth team in Akron program history to win at least 16 games in a season and the seventh Zips squad to do so in the Division I era.
