KENT, Ohio - The Akron Zips Men's Track and Field team captured their fifth MAC league title in the last six seasons on Saturday at the 2019 MAC Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Akron's Curtis Richardson began the day on a high note as he repeated as MAC Men's High Jump Champion with a 2.16m (7-01.0) clearance!
The Zips continued their success in the 60m Hurdles and the triple jump, as R-Freshman Patrick Kimball, and Sophomore Hesham Eldesouky captured 1st place respectively for both competitions.
Finally, Akron's Matt Ludwig secured the victory for the Zips as he produced a facility and MAC Championship Record (5.81m/19-00.75) on his way to his third men's pole vault title!
EMU finished in second place at the championship after another strong day of competition.
Owen Day earned his second title in the mile event for Eastern Michigan, finishing with a time of 4:12.86, while teammate Tyler Underwood took home both the 200m and the 400m individual title. The Eagles also captured the 60m title for the first time since 2011 with Terrell Posada crossing the line at 6.78.
The team of Charlie Young, Treston White, Tyler Underwood and Owen Richardson defended their 4x4 title in 2018 for EMU with a finishing time of 3:11.95.
The Men's Heptathlon championship went to Kent State's TJ Lawson. The redshirt Freshman was able to collect 5427 points across seven events.
In the 800m, Buffalo won their first event of the day as Leon Atkins took home the gold after posting a time of 1:49.48.
The shot put competition was won by Central Michigan's Kevin Weiler, who became the first Chippewa to win a shot put title in 19 years.
Selections for the 2019 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships will be announced on February 26th at 10:00 pm ET.
