MAC Announces Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week

MAC Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Anthony Clark, Buffalo
Senior – Rochester, New York/Gates Chili

Anthony Clark ran to a MAC leading time and MAC automatic qualifying mark of 8.06/60HH at the Youngstown State Icebreaker Opener.  He ranks #1 in the MAC and #14 in the NCAA. He is now tied for fifth on UB's all time event list.
 
MAC Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Ashley Tutt, NIU
R-Sophomore – Channahon, Illinois/Minooka

Ashley Tutt set a new NIU school record in the 3,000 meters at the season-opening GVSU Holiday Open (Dec. 6). Tutt picked right up where she left off after an outstanding cross-country season with a MAC auto time of 9:26.86 to finish fourth and break the previous NIU school record of 9:40.32, previously set by Kelsey Hildreth at the 2015 Mid-American Conference Championships.
 
MAC Men’s Field Co-Athletes of the Week
Christian Champen, Kent State
Senior – Clayton, Ohio/Northmont

Christian Champen won the men's pole vault competition at the YSU Icebreaker with a top clearance of 16'-6.75". Champen's MAC-best height ranks 11th nationally.
 
Logan Targgart, Central Michigan
Senior – Coldwater, Michigan/Coldwater

Targgart placed first in the weight throw in the season-opening Grand Valley State Holiday Open. The senior lofted 69 feet, 5 ¼ inches.

MAC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Nadia Williams, Central Michigan
Senior – Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin/Mt. Horeb

Central Michigan senior Nadia Williams broke her own program record in finishing first in the women's long jump at the Holiday Open at Grand Valley State in Allendale, Mich. Williams' leap of 21 feet, 1 1/4 inches bettered her previous mark of 21-1/2. Her 21-1 1/4 jump (6.43 meters) is the best in the nation this season.

 
Other Nominees
Kaila Butler, Bowling Green
Senior – Port Coquitlam, BC/Terry Fox Secondary

Kaila Butler, an All-American in the hammer throw, opened the 2019-20 season by setting a new personal best in the weight throw to win the event at the BG Opener. Butler threw 64-feet-10.75 (19.78m) to pace the MAC early in the season and to rank 10th nationally. In her six-throw series, she had five legal throws, each of which surpassed the MAC automatic qualifying mark. She twice threw at least 19 meters in the series.
 
Ryen Draper, Bowling Green
Junior – Canton, Michigan/Plymouth

Ryen Draper broke Bowling Green's school record in the non-traditional 300m at the BG Opener, winning the event in 39.00 and shattering her own personal best by almost a full second. Draper also ran the anchor leg as a member of the 1600 relay team that placed second (behind another BGSU relay team) at the BG Opener.
 
Priscilla Faa, Buffalo
Sophomore – Jamaica, New York/John Bowne

Priscilla Faa ran her lifetime best in the 200m of 25.22 placing ninth in the field of 55 women. She also ran a strong opening 60m of 8.01, just shy of her lifetime best.
 
Amber Jones, Ball State
Senior – Matteson, Illinois/Rich South

Senior Amber Jones was a two-time event winner at the Mastodon Opener, starting with a winning time of 39.89 in the 300m ... She also ran the opening leg for the first place 4x400m relay which clocked in at 3:56.72 (3:53.62 converted).
 
Nisa Raqib, Buffalo
Sophomore – Buffalo, New York/Hutch Tech

Nisa Raqib opened her season with over a 1-foot personal best leap of 41-10.50/12.77m to win the Youngstown State Icebreaker Opener. Her marks is #2 in the MAC, and tied for #3 in the NCAA. She broke the 16-year-old UB School record set by former MAC Champion and NCAA qualifier Biaunca McFarland in 2003.
  
Kayla Walters, Miami
Freshman – Bolingbrook, Illinois

True freshman Kayla Walters impressed in her first ever collegiate meet last week at Bowling Green, earning the even win in the 60m hurdles with an 8.85 time. In addition, Walters also ran in the 200 where she took a fourth-place finish.
 
Kelsey Walters, Ball State
Senior – Troy, Ohio/Troy

Senior Kelsey Walters won the shot put competition at the Mastodon Opener with a toss of 14.35m, which was .02m off her career-best mark set at last season's Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships.
 
Jehvania Whyte, NIU
Senior – Kingston, Jamaica/Vere Technical

Jehvania Whyte opened her season with a victory in the triple jump at Purdue’s Fred Wilt Open (Dec. 7). Whyte, the two-time defending MAC champion in the triple jump, was over 12 meters on all five of her legal attempts, saving her best mark of 12.79m (41-11.5) for her final jump. Whyte topped the field by over two feet with second-place Diamond Riley posting a mark of 12.08m (39-7.75).
 
Sam Wray, Buffalo
Senior – Lockport, New York/Starpoint

Sam Wray easily won the Youngstown State Icebreaker Opener in the men’s weight throw with a distance of 62’0.5”/18.91m. His throw ranks #3 in the MAC, and #15 in the NCAA. The senior now holds the No. 3 and 4 records in UB's all-time weight throw list.
