Freshman - Turany, Slovakia/Bilingválne Gymnázium M. Hodžu Sucany
Cernek shined in his Saluki debut, as he took first in a team-best three events. The freshman earned victories in the 100- and 200-yard backstroke events with times of 50.77 and 1:51.22. His third win of the day was in the 400-IM (4:02.78), where he outlasted the closest Bearcat swimmer by .21 seconds.
Michael Hampel, Missouri State
Junior - Owensboro, Kentucky/Owensboro Catholic
Hampel made a splash in his debut for MSU, recording a pair of top-10 finishes at the season-opening Show-Me Showdown. He tied for fourth in the 100 breaststroke (57.08) and slipped in a ninth-place effort (1:54.57) during the 200 IM. In team events, Hampel contributed to the Bears’ 200 medley relay fourth-place mark.
