Muriel Albino Named Men's Soccer Player of the Week

MAC Men’s Soccer Player of the Week
Andres Muriel Albino, West Virginia

Andres Muriel Albino tallied three goals in a pair of West Virginia victories last week. On Tuesday, he found the back of the net twice at Ohio State to help the Mountaineers to a 4-1 win. The Sevilla, Spain, native scored on a penalty kick early in the match before adding a second goal after halftime. On Saturday, Muriel Albino scored again to put the finishing touches on a 3-0 win over Penn. He fired from the corner of the box and was able to bend the ball into the far post for his team-leading sixth goal of the season. He finished the week with six shots, four of them on goal. Muriel Albino also played all 90 minutes in both matches.

Bowling Green junior midfielder Chris Sullivan had a goal and an assist as the Falcons downed Canisius, 4-1, on Saturday night. The four-goal output was BG’s highest in over three years. Sullivan scored the Falcons’ first goal, tying the game early in the second half, then added an assist on a goal by Matt Walters that closed the scoring. Sullivan is tied for the team lead in goals, with four, and is second in points (11). In his career, he now has 23 points on eight goals and seven assists. Through nine matches in 2019, he has matched his goal total for his first two years combined (four), and has nearly equaled his assists (four) and points (12) totals as well. The Falcons are 5-3-1 heading into a Tuesday match at Detroit Mercy.
 
Jorge Gonzalez, SIUE  
Forward, Senior, Valencia, Spain       
 
SIUE picked up a pair of wins and Jorge Gonzalez added two more goals to his season tally and both were game-winning goals. He lifted SIUE to a 1-0 win on the road at Kansas City with a 79th minute strike. On Saturday, he opened the scoring with a perfectly-placed header in the 51st minute. Gonzalez leads the MAC in goals, game-winning goals and points. He is among the national leaders in all three categories, ranking sixth in game-winning goals, 11th in total goals and 22nd in total points. 
 
Martin Sanchez, NIU  
Goalkeeper, R-Freshman, Bloomington, Minn. (Kennedy)              
 
Martin Sanchez allowed just one goal in two overtime victories last week, posting a 0.47 goals against average and a .900 save percentage, as the Huskies downed Milwaukee and Western Illinois. Sanchez made four saves and recorded a shutout to start the week against Milwaukee as the Huskies retained the Lewang Trophy with a 1-0 victory. NIU then completed its sweep of the week with a 2-1 overtime win at Western Illinois as Sanchez made five saves. For the season, Sanchez has a 0.65 goals against average and a .812 save percentage, along with a perfect 4-0-0 record, since taking over as the Huskie starter. 
 
Eric Conerty, Western Michigan        
Forward, Sophomore, Grand Rapids, MI (Forest Hills Central)        
 
Conerty led the Broncos with three points (1 goal, 1 assist) in an overtime loss to RV Illinois Chicago. He started in both games for WMU last week, logging 145 minutes.
