MAC Men's Swimmer Of The Week
Artur Osvath, Missouri State University       
Senior, Budapest, Hungary
 
Artur Osvath set both the Rolfs Aquatic Center and MSU team record with a time of 1:53.68 in a 200 breaststroke time trial at the Shamrock Invitational. The time is currently tied for fifth in the country and will guarantee him a spot in the NCAA Championships. He concluded his final regular season meet by posting a 1:43.98 in the 200 butterfly, setting yet another pool and MSU team record amongst nationally-ranked programs. Osvath’s times in the 200 breaststroke and 200 butterfly also surpassed the standing MAC records. During the first day of competition Osvath’s 53.12 time in the 100 breaststroke came in under the pool record to net him second place. His time in the 100 breaststroke was a career-best.

Sarah Watson, Akron            

Freshman, Winnipeg, Manitoba (St. Mary's Academy)       
 
Freshman Sarah Watson was a member of two winning relay teams, while also picking up an individual win at the Shamrock Invitational over the weekend. Joining Ragen Engel, Sadie Fazekas and Sofia Henell, the 400 freestyle relay team recorded a record-breaking time of 3:17.02. The time not only set a new pool record but set a new program record for Akron as well as a new Mid-American Conference record. Watson was a member of the winning 200 freestyle team (1:29.94), while also earning an individual win in the 200 IM with a time of 2:00.55. Additionally, the standout freshman placed second in the 400 medley relay (3:39.18), 800 freestyle relay (7:15.27), 100 butterfly (52.97), and 200 butterfly (1:59.34).
 
Izzy Herb, Miami        
Junior, St. Charles, Ill. (St. Charles East)       

Junior swimmer Izzy Herb led the way for the RedHawk women as they dominated dual meets against two conference opponents this week, winning at Ball State (203-97) and at home against Toledo (225-75). Herb won seven of the eight total events she competed in this past week. At Ball State, she set pool records in the 100 back (56.45) and 200 back (2:02.86) while also winning the 200 free relay (1:36.86) and coming in second in the 200 medley relay (1:47.30). Against Toledo, Herb once again swept the backstroke events (100 back - 56.27, 200 back - 2:02.06) and added on two relay wins in the 200 medley relay (1:45.62) and the 400 free relay (3:27.52).

Other Female Nominees 
 
Peighton Gilbert, Ball State   
Junior, Greenwood, Ind. (Center Grove)      
 
Peighton Gilbert played a key role in Ball State women’s swimming & diving nabbing wins over Indiana State and Southern Illinois last Saturday. She opened the day by swimming anchor for the first-place 200 medley relay which finished with a time of 1:45.52, thanks in part to her freestyle split of 23.35 which led all freestyle swimmers.   In her individual events, the junior took second in the 50 free with a 24.45, and third in the 100 free by clocking in at 53.79. Her most important swim of the day came in the last event of the meet, with Ball State trailing Indiana State by just a few points. Gilbert swam the opening leg of the 400 free relay in 53.59 to help the Cardinals win the event with a time of 3:32.65 to secure the victory over ISU and go 2-0 on the day.   Gilbert was also involved in two victories earlier in the week against Miami. She helped the 200 medley relay open the meet with a win, swimming anchor and turning in a 50 free time of 23.47 to help the relay finish with a time of 1:44.92. She went on to secure the lone individual victory of the day for BSU with a 24.33 in the 50 free.  
 
Emilia Lahtinen, Ohio            
Junior, Ylojarvi, Finland / Sammon Keskuslukio High School          
 
Junior Emilia Lahtinen helped the Ohio swimming & diving team (5-2) dominate in-state rival Youngstown State, 208-84, last Saturday (Jan. 26) at the Ohio University Aquatic Center. Lahtinen posted a pair of individual victories, winning the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:05.53 and the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:20.04. She also helped Ohio’s 200-yard medley relay ‘B’ team place second in the event with a time of 1:48.97. With her performance in the pool accompanying her outstanding performance in the classroom, Lahtinen earned the Ohio University Female Scholar Athlete of the Week award. 
 
Joelle Gallais, Toledo  
Freshman, Lumsden, Saskatchewan
 
Freshman diver Joelle Gallais had another impressive showing in her first season as a Rocket this weekend in Toledo’s dual meet against Miami. Gallais won the 1-meter event with an even 300. Her score is the second-best in UT history, putting her 6.52 points behind Megan McKinley (2008). In the  3-meter, Gallais took third after scoring 309.90 points, moving her to third all-time at UT. Both of her scores were new personal records as well. 
 
Claire Young, Eastern Michigan        
Junior, Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.-Grosse Point South      
 
Junior Claire Young led the Eagles past Bowling Green with two event wins, Saturday, Jan. 26. In the Green and White's 17th consecutive Mid-American Conference dual meet victory, Young finished the 100 Backstroke in just 55.19 for the top finish, while also topping the podium in the 200 IM with a season-best time of 2:06.26. The Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich. native also swam a leg of the Eagles' first place 200 Medley Relay squad as the Eagles bested the Falcons, 167-122.

Ben Andrew, Ball State          

Junior, Arlington Heights, Ill.            
 
Ben Andrew competed in 12 different events and let Ball State all week. Against Miami, the junior finished in the top three of four of his swims. His biggest day of the week was on Saturday when, against Southern Illinois, Andrew started off the day by swimming the opening leg of the 200 medley relay which his team won with a time of 1:37.45. He then won the 50 free by clocking in at 21.78, and finished as the runner up in the 100 fly. At the Butler Invitational on Sunday, Andrew completed four swims and finished in the top-10 of every single one. His best finish of the day came in the 50 free where he finished ninth with a time of 21.92.
 
Iago Moussalem, Miami
Junior, Cuiaba, Brazil (Colegio Amorim)       
 
Junior Iago Moussalem won all four events he competed in at Ball State to help Miami to a 236-63 victory. Moussalem set a pool record at Ball State in the 200 fly (1:51.12). He also won the 100 fly (50.12), 200 medley relay (1:34.48) and 200 free relay (1:25.26) against Ball State. Moussalem also swam well in the intrasquad meet on Saturday, winning the 200 free (1:41.24) and 400 free relay (3:06.72) while coming in second in the 200 medley relay (1:35.81).
 
Kai Hoffmann-Dussome, Southern Illinois    
Junior, Mississauga, Ontario (Canada)          
 
Won all four diving events he competed in this weekend against Ball State and at the Butler Invite. Scores of 284.10 and 310.35 in the one- and three-meter dive against Ball State.At Ball State, he scored 284.10 in the one-meter dive and 310.35 in the three-meter dive. At the Butler Invite, he scored 283.40 in the one-meter dive and 321.90 in the three-meter dive. Top-three marks in the MAC in both diving events. Seven victories on the season.

Miguel Marcano, Evansville  
Senior, Hobart, IN      
 
Senior Miguel Marcano excelled on the boards Saturday afternoon against Saint Louis. He made a lasting impact with his final 1-Meter performance at Wyttenbach, his winning score of 315.90 breaking the school record set by B. Fox in 1996. He also won the 3-Meter with 300.75 points.
