BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Eastern Michigan Men fought back on the final day of competition to register 184.5 points and secure the 2018 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship title. With this victory, the Eagles successfully secure the MAC Triple Crown after winning the 2018 Indoor Championships and 2017 Cross Country title.
The day started off with Kent State's 4x100 relay squad of Brandon Harris, James Johnson, Shakorie Davis and Riak Reese claiming the 2018 title with a time of 40.19. CMU's Berkley Edwards, Jack Dodge, Jamar Hardy and Lorenzo finished second in 40.50. Akron crossed third in 40.57 with the team of Kwadarrius Smith, Taron Slone, Jamir Coleman ad Tyler Grine.
Kent State's Trevor Detillion registered a 53.11m throw in the discus to take the 2018 crown. Buffalo's Samuel Wray grabbed second with a throw of 50.12m and Akron's Maurice Harris lofted 48.74 to take third.
For the second year in a row Miami finished 1-2 in the 1500m. Sophomore Chris Torpy crossed in 3:51.55, while his twin brother, Sean finished in 3:52.01. The duo would switch placed on the podium in the 800, with Sean crossing first in 1:51.82 and Chris following at 1:52.14
Central Michigan's Shane Moffo took the 110m hurdle title with a time of 13.87. EMU's Devonte Findlay followed in second at 14.05 and Akron's Patrick Kimball claimed third with a time of 14:21.
Akron's Curtis Richardson repeated as high jump champion with a vertical of 2.12m. Kent State finished 2-3 with Brad Johnson at 2.09m and DJ Ohlson at 2.06m.
After redshirting last outdoor season, EMU's Tyler Brown came back to claim his fourth 400m title with a time of 47.03. His freshman teammate, Owen Richardson followed .15 behind to take second and CMU's Ben Hayes claimed third in 47.48.
Due to wind, Kent State's Riak Reese just missed setting meet record in the 100m. The senior recorded a 10.16. He then threw down a 20.51 in the 200m to claim his second individual title of the championships. Akron's Kwadarrius Smith and EMU's Tyler Johnson respectively completed the top three in the 100m with times of 10.29 and 10.36. Johnson then finished second in the 200m at 20.91. Akron's Taron Slone rounded out the top three in the 200m with a 21.02.
Kent State's Craig Stevens Jr. defended his triple jump with a leap of 15.76m. His teammate, Anthony Milliner posted 14.85m to take second and EMU's Nick Herbert finished 14.82m to take third.
Buffalo's Mitchell Moore defended home turf and his 400m hurdle crown from a year ago, finishing in 51.98. Miami's Aaron Muresan crossed second in 52.95 and Moore's teammate, Chimaobi Ezeilo finished third with a time of 53.37.
EMU's Hlynur Andresson picked up his third title of the championships with a 14:36.67 performance in the 5000m. Miami's Jake Brumfield crossed in 14:38.30 to take second and Central Michigan's Logan Kleam finished third at 14:39.30.
The final event of the day went to Eastern Michigan's 4x400m relay team of Tyler Underwood, Tyler Johnson, Owen Richardson and Tyler Brown. The quad finished in 3:10.85. Central Michigan's team of Jack Dodge, Erick Huertas, Roshawn Morton and Ben Hayes crossed second in 3:11.12. Miami's Ivan Dye, Jake Owens, Josh Prell and Aaron Muresan crossed in 3:14.00 to take third.
The Eagles finished the championship with 184.5 points. Akron followed behind in second place with 166 points and Kent State took third with 153 points. Central Michigan (115), Miami (111), and Buffalo (80.5) respectively completed the field.
