BUFFALO, N.Y. –  The University of Akron women maintained their lead on the final day of competition to capture the 2018 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship crown. This is the eighth conference title for the Zips.
 
The ladies of Eastern Michigan started the day off by claiming their third-straight 4x100m relay title. The team of Jessica Harris, Micha Johnston, Brittni Mason and Jasmine Jones posted a 45.27. Ball State’s quad of Jazmin Smith, Bryeana Byrdsong, Amber Jones and Peyton Stewart crossed second in 45.57. Kent State finished third in 46.19 with the team of Gana Lopez, Nicole Yeargin, Cayla Carey and Kayla Seymour.
 
Toledo’s Janelle Noe took the 1500 crown, setting a MAC Record in the process. The senior finished in 4:17.01. Her teammate Petronela Simiuc followed at 4:12.73 to take second and Akron’s Mackenzie Andrews crossed third in 4:21.40
 
Akron picked up their first individual title of the day in the discus with Abigale Wilson’s throw of 53.64m. Central Michigan’s Erin Howard placed second with a loft of 51.31m and Bowling Green’s Aliyah Gustafson finished third at 50.40m.
 
The Zips picked up another title with Dara Perry’s record breaking performance in the 100m hurdles. The senior registered a 13.10 setting a new time for the meet and conference. Buffalo’s Selina Von Jackowski followed at 13.16 and NIU’s Remy Amarteifio completed the top 3 with a 13.48.
 
Ball State’s Regan Lewis posted a vertical of 1.79m to repeat as high jump champion. EMU’s Dace Dreimane and NIU’s Chennel Palmer tied for second, clearing 1.64m
 
Central Michigan’s Gabriella Beauvais recorded a 400m time of 53.40 to take the crown. EMU’s Jasmine Jones followed in second at 53.64 and Miami’s Olivia Bechtel claimed third with a 54.05.
 
Another meet record was broken in the 100m dash by Akron’s Daziah Green, who posted a 11.51. She then turned around and won the 200m dash in 23.54. Ball State’s Peyton Stewart and EMU’s Jessica Harris respectively complete the top three in the 100, finishing in 11.66 and 11.68. In the 200, Kent State’s Nicole Yeargin crossed second in 23.55 and EMU’s Jasmine Jones followed .04 to claim third.
 
Western Michigan’s Sarah Anderson ran a 2:07.21 to secure the 800m. Kent State’s Rachel Banks took second in 2:09.76 and NIU’s Lorena Martin followed in third at 2:09.84.
 
The Broncos picked up another individual title, with Erin Dowd’s 59.08 performance in the 400m hurdles. Bowling Green’s Chasatea Brown took second at 1:00.11 and Akron’s Patricia Ortega finished third at 1:00.35.
 
In the triple jump, NIU’s Jehvania Whyte defended her title from the indoor season with a leap of 13.29m. Akron’s Ariadna Ramos Gandia took second at 12.52m and Toledo’s Karoline Steppin claimed third with 12.47m.
 
Eastern Michigan’s Alsu Bogdanova defended her 5000m title, setting a meet record in the process. The senior finished in 16:09.13. Her teammate Sydney Meyers finished in second at 16:14.20 and NIU’s Ashley Tutt crossed in 16:15.03 to take third.
 
The Miami RedHawks’ team of Kalliopi Kountouri, Gabby Maslowski, Emily Hooker and Olivia Bechtel closed out the championships with a 3:41.16 performance in the 4x400m relay. WMU’s Sarah Anderson, Davonne Bolden, Ashley Worford and Erin Dowd took second at 3:41.76 and EMU’s Michaela Nelma, Micha Johnston, Keypathwa Gibson and Jasmine Jones earned third with a 3:42.24.
 
Akron collected 136.5 points throughout the three-day competition. Eastern Michigan followed in second with 122 points, while Toledo listed 74 to take third. Central Michigan (69), Kent State (67) and Western Michigan (64) placed 4-5-6. Bowling Green, Miami and NIU tied for seventh with 58 points. Ball State (49.5), Buffalo (34) and Ohio (29) complete the field, respectively.
