Buffalo:
Bulls Open Season With Hard Fought Match At Wisconsin
MADISON, Wis. – Buffalo opened the 2018-19 campaign at 21st-ranked Wisconsin on Thursday night and had a strong showing before falling to the Badgers, 25-12. After Wisconsin won by fall in the opening match to take a 6-0 lead, the Bulls battled back to tie the dual at 6-6 with consecutive wins by Derek Spann at 133 and Bryan Lantry at 141.
Spann, seeing his first dual action in two seasons after redshirting last year, won a 7-4 decision over Jens Lantz. Spann trailed 4-2 after the first period, but wouldn't allow another point the rest of the way. A reversal in the second and a takedown in the third period helped him win. Lantry, wrestling at 141 for the first time in his career, earned a 7-3 decision over Tristan Moran. The Bulls' senior had two takedowns and earned a riding-time point in the match.

Central Michigan:
Runner-up Stencel Leads Chippewa Wrestlers
EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Sophomore Matt Stencel's second place finish highlighted Central Michigan Wrestling's day at the 2018 Michigan State Open Saturday. Stencel, the reigning Mid-American Conference Champion at 285 pounds, earned three pin-fall victories en route to the championship match, where he fell on a first-period pin to Michigan's Mason Parris.
Also for the Chippewas, sophomores Drew Hildebrandt (125 pounds) and Blake Montrie (165) each finished fourth, and redshirt freshman Brock Bergelin (133) finished fifth, and redshirt freshman Colin Lieber finished sixth at 174 pounds. Three Chippewas, senior Jordan Atienza (184), sophomore Dresden Simon (141) and redshirt freshman Drew Martin (141), did not finish the tournament due to injuries.

Kent State:
Flashes Finish 3-1 In Kent State Duals
KENT, Ohio -- Kent State claimed decisive victories over Cowley, Lindsey Wilson and Kent State Tuscarawas on a 3-1 Friday at the Field House. Twenty-one Golden Flashes saw action at the Kent State Duals, including a number of varsity debuts in the blue and gold. The most impressive debut may have belonged to Eastern Michigan transfer Andrew McNally. The sophomore 184-pounder went 3-0 with a pin, a tech fall and a major decision.
Junior Shane Mast also went 3-0. Despite weighing in at 184, Mast earned a pair of victories at 197. Another victory at 197 belonged to returning All-American Kyle Conel. With limited use of one shoulder, the fifth-year senior still managed an impressive 20-4 tech fall by the end of the second period against Lindsey Wilson's Lucas Miozza. Along with 184 and 197, the Flashes also went unbeaten on the mat at 125. Sophomores Jake Ferri and Tomas Gutierrez each went 2-0 in the opening match.

Bast, Barreiro & McNally Win Clarion Open Titles
Three Kent State wrestlers were crowned Clarion Open champions Saturday at Clarion's Student Recreation Center. In consecutive weight classes, senior Isaac Bast (165) and sophomores Dylan Barreiro (174) and Andrew McNally (184) all won individual titles in their first tournament of the season. Bast went 5-0 on the day and defeated Clarion's Evan Delong in the finals 15-8. Barreiro also knocked off a Clarion opponent in the finals to go 5-0, with a 4-3 decision of Taylor Cahill. McNally needed sudden victory to top Bloomsburg's Trevor Allard 6-4 in the finals. McNally had pins in each of his first three matches and a major decision in the semifinals before his fifth win of the day.

No. 8 ranked Missouri Opens With Win at Illinois
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- No. 8 Mizzou Wrestling (1-0, 0-0) opened the regular season with a 30-8 victory over No. 17 Illinois on Saturday afternoon at the first-ever Grapple at the Grove in Champaign, Ill. This marks the eighth year in a row the Tigers have won their opening dual. Mizzou's last season-opening loss coming in 2010 against Illinois. The teams battled it out on Grange Grove, right outside of Illinois' Memorial Stadium. The overcast conditions had no impact on the Tigers as they dominated the meet from start to finish.

Huskies Open Season at Michigan State Open
EAST LANSING, Mich. -- The Northern Illinois University wrestling team turned in a solid afternoon as the Huskies hit the mat for the first time this season at the Michigan State Open Saturday. Alijah Jeffery battled to a third-place finish at 133 in the Open bracket. He defeated teammate Drew West, by a 12-4 major decision in his first match, before falling to Michigan State's Anthony Tutolo, 3-2. He then defeated Central Michigan's Brock Bergelin, 9-2, before scoring an 11-1 major decision victory over Tony Madrigal of Oklahoma in the third-place bout.

Mario Guillen, Yinger Earn First-Place Finishes For Ohio Wrestling At Michigan State Open
EAST LANSING, Mich. -- The Ohio wrestling team saw nine individuals earn top-five finishes at the Michigan State Open, which was held this afternoon at Jenison Fieldhouse in East Lansing, Mich. Two Bobcats came away with first-place finishes, with redshirt sophomore Mario Guillen (Perrysburg, Ohio) winning at 133 in the open bracket and freshman Colt Yinger (Nelsonville, Ohio) winning at 165 in the freshman/sophomore bracket. The open bracket also saw sophomore Aaron Naples (Brunswick, Ohio) take third at 197 and redshirt senior Zack Parker(Felton, Del.) place third at 285 while redshirt freshman Moises Guillen (Perrysburg, Ohio) took fifth at 141 and redshirt freshman Alec Hagan (Eureka, Mo.) finished fifth at 149.

Old Dominion:
Early and Agee Place Second at Princeton Open
Princeton, N.J. -- The Old Dominion wrestling team wrapped up action at the Princeton Open on Sunday evening. Larry Early and Antonio Agee placed second in their respective weight class. There was no team scoring in the 13-squad event. Seven other Monarchs placed in the stacked event. To open the day, Simpson, Perry, Carter, Early, Agee and Hilliard earned wins. Perry won two straight before medically forfeiting his final matches of the day. At 149, Carter won three straight before dropping a close 8-5 decision to Alfred Bannister of Maryland. Carter came back to place third.
